So based on the rave reviews I have gotten on this very forum, I went ahead and purchased the Eastern Performance bullet headlight for my Springer. I really like the light... a lot. It flows great with the Springer and is a solid piece. So as most of us do, my first thought was to install a Silverstar bulb for better lighting. I swear to God, I can not figure out how to get this light apart. There is a small set screw in the bottom which I removed, but nothing I seem to do will get this thing apart. The reason I spent the extra money on this light was that it is advertised that it uses a replaceable H4 bulb, so I know that it comes apart. Any help from those who have this light is appreciated. I am afraid I just need to really pry the front ring out with a screwdriver, BUT if I do that I will certainly wreck some chrome. It would seriously **** me off if I crack the housing or have to gouge up the new chrome to do this. Advice needed.
facing the light, grip that ring with your thumbs and turn the ring counter-clockwise. It's a royal PITA but it will give. I'm sure there's a pro way to do it, maybe email them? I've just always done it this way.
once that comes off, there'll be another ring. It'll have detents. I just take a punch or small phillips that fits in one of the detents and turn the ring cc.
getting 'em on is just as much fun as takin 'em off.
WOW, no, like really... wow. I never, would have figured that out. It never even dawned on me that the ring was threaded. Like posted, it took a while, but once it budged the first time, I was able to use rags and spin the outer ring off and then get to the inner ring. Well, the Silverstar is in and I put plenty of anti seize on the threads. Knowing that these Silverstars don't last long and its just a matter of time till I need to do this again, I wanted to make sure that if I was stuck in some Walmart parking lot at 2:00am that I could get the thing back apart. Thank you guys sooooo much for the insight and replies.
Thanks guys. I thought about the HID, but for now I just installed the Silverstar. There is VERY little room in the back of that light so I'm going to run just that for now, or until I figure out what HID to attempt.
