S&S Video regarding cams
So you go through the top to reuse the stock push rods.
According to the book you must remove the tank, rocker boxes, rocker breather, rocker arms.
The process call for a quarter turn on the bolts in sequence. That is about 10 to 15 bolts at a quarter turn once you get the boxes off.
That would take at least Two hours or more just to get the bolts off at that pace. Would it not? Seems real tedious.
Can someone explain? Did you just remove each bolt one by one, and ignore he 1/4 turn instructions?
I am all for saving money. There is a good mechanic that has offered to guide me on this journey.
But, if you would please elaborate on going through the top.
Also I did apologize for my jerk-off reactions, but some who have seen. I try to help when I can here, and some days are better than others. Nothing is really meant to be personal. If I can' help with motorcycle related topics. I try to give other advice that is equal in importance.
God bless.
You only need to do the quarter turn bit when iniating the removal and tightening sequence ... bolts do not need to be taken out one-by-one a quarter turn at a time ... (suppose that became pretty obvious as soon as you wrote it) ...
I did the job by myself at a military base MWR auto hobby shop ... so, had to go back and forth to the tool counter to check out tools as needed ... added a little administrative time ... took a couple of breaks and then left it overnight and came back to finish on Sunday ...
As mentioned, I initially reused my stock pushrods ... later, when I did the MCR heads, I used Screamin Eagle perfect fit pushrods as specified in the literature ... the heads are 'decked' relative to the stock heads so need slightly shorter pushrods ...
If you're doing a set of bolt in cams with all other stock components, you should be able to reuse the stock pushrods if the 'base circle' of the cams is same as stock ...
I think several posts added some perspective ... shops have to cover their overhead ... there is a little more involved to get to the point of starting the cam job ... I think for the most part, you were a little misunderstood and you acknowledged not coming across as you meant on a couple of posts ... seems to me everyone should just consider 'no harm, no foul' ... take whatever they can from your thread and from those adding their posts ....
Good luck with the cam install and the 'new/old' quieter pipes ...
