can you believe that even my HD salesman said I did not need a tuner for pipes and A/C... Not to mention AIM with my exact bike....
Mine (kinda) did too. When I bought my 2011 I got him to swap my Samsons from my trade. I asked about tuning and he said , " I'm not really telling you this but, there's no real need to tune with a simple Stage 1"
We went to parts & service to see if the old pipes would fit the new bike and the question came up again. The wrench just smiled and winked.
Good enough for me.
As far as AIM goes, I don't see them gaining anything by telling peolple a tune is not needed. You'd think it would be the other way around.
If you want a cheap and cheerful solution to tide you over then buy some Xieds.
Checked them out and look good but my bike just now has over 100 miles and more worried about dealer trying to say anything like that would void warranty, that was the reason i was gonna stick with the download. Now after warranty, anything goes lol.

Fair enough. Its a two minute job to unplug them if you needed some warranty work though. But if it was a choice between a download or nothing in the shorter term, I'd go with nothing. My two local dealers won't even sell you the download because they know it does nothing and are bothered about pissing off customers by ripping them off
Sorry I'm new here & didn't get a chance to read. It about 4 pages of this on my lunch break, but has anyone tried the cobra Fi2000? I have one but haven't got to install it yet, supposedly it's just plug & go no matter what youe do to the bike.... Stage 1 or 2 doesn't matter, it constantly is supposed to adjust like 80 times per second? Any thoughts?
Just did XIEDS, and not to sound like a salesman(I'm not), but they are really impressive. Bike starts better, runs smoother, more responsive. Probably the best $100 I have spent on my bike. Oh, and I run a stage 1 with Full system 2:1 exhaust.
I run a thunderheader and stock aircleaner for about 3000 mi now and it is just fine without a tune. It does pop a bit but that to be expected with these bikes being lean from the factory. But with the f/I it will adjust enough to not f-up your bike. That being said I am getting an aircleaner and having it tuned soon because I want to get the max performance out of my mods that's why I did them in the first place. Do you need a tune for the bike to run fine. No. If your goal is performance than Yes
Just a little side story about the Harley SE download. I got an 07 Street Glide, and installed the SE AC and Rush slip-ons. Dealer said I needed the SE Map to make it right. I did and it ran good. Traded the SG on a Road Glide 08. Traded the AC and Rush onto the new bike. Oh, I need the down load again. They do the download and when it comes time to pay, they come to me and say that Harley did a service bulletin on the factory map. Said to install the SE map as a replacement, as the stock map was too lean and was causing problems. So I got the upgrade for free, and it ran good, too. Harley realized the heat problem and had the maps changed up to a certain vin, after that the SE map became the stock map, I was told by the svc mgr...
I say this because if the SE map didn't change the AFR to lower the temp, then MOCO wouldn't have spent the $ to get the maps changed. Simply raising the limiter point wouldn't have helped the heating problem, but they believed that the new "richer" map would. Just sayin'.
