the instructions for the HD mirrors said that the stock lights were required in order for the LED mirror lights to work properly, I never verified that they would not work with out them?? I will have to try unplugging them and see what happens, removing them is not that big a deal!

I'm interested to see where this goes. I'd like to pick up and older FXD to build into a hot rod.

I saw that too, but totally ignored it. The led mirrors have little load on the circuit. The pigtails simply bank the leds when the turns flash otherwise the are always only as driving lights. I have been running w/o front turns since I put them only months ago. Course since I went full leds (rear too) I put in a solid state load equalizer to have enough load for the turns to function. Got one with built in RBT conversion for the rear...

I unpluged the front lights and the mirrors seem to work fine, I'm dropping the Bike off to have the engine built this morning, can't wait, won't be crazy fast like yours but it should be plenty fast for me

I got to putting my bars on over the weekend (LA Choppers high club bars in black) and plans changed a bit. The initial plan was to do a little bit at a time but things changed when I realized that the clutch cable and brake line on the bike were too short for the bars. I mounted my gauges with a couple of 1.25" clamps up high so I can see them. the FXDXT fairing has a nice recess that is perfectly fitted for the gauges but the bars would be in the way if I put them down that low. You can see in the pic how they look. They will still be behind the new Cee Bailey's stock height all black windshield when it gets here and this will work fine for me until my buddy makes me a bracket to mount them on the other side of the bars. The pics are after the fairing was already taken off, but it is going to look killer. Since I will have to order cables now and the tank was already off, I have decided to get the paint job now. I removed the tins and stripped them down. This should also allow access to the wiring harness so I can pull the wiring back through the frame for the bars that I pulled out to wire the bars internally. I could not find the plugs for the bar switches so I cut, soldered, and heat shrunk all of the connections for that down by the frame. The portion I cut and soldered will be pulled back inside the frame when I figure out the rear wiring harness situation. The tins are going to my painter today although I am still not sure what I am doing for the paint. I am thinking a black flake.

Once the tins were all off I thought I was satisfied and into the bike deep enough but that changed again as well when I decided to pull the exhaust off as I have a black TH coming this week. Once the exhaust was off I decided to take a peek at the cam chain tensioners as the bike is at 33K miles and I had access to the cam cover. Boy am I glad I did. The outer tensioner is about half worn and the inner is about to go. It is so worn that the shoe is cracked. I didn't even pull the cam plate yet but I could see this with the plate in the bike. It seems like now is the time for a new carb too, maybe I can pull it off, but I am not really sure right now.

So needless to say I ordered up the Screaming Eagle hydraulic upgrade cam plate with the bigger oil pump and a set of Andrew's 26G cams to throw in. Also I got adjustable pushrods and tubes. I still need to get some lifters. I am planning on going with stock lifters as that has worked well on other bikes that we have.

If I only had the funds for a Mikuni 42 and big bore and heads right now that would be done too and could have saved me some money on the adjustable pushrods and tubes, but that mod will have to wait for a while.

So, I have the tins at paint, new TH in black coming, cams and cam plate upgrade, new inner and outer cam bearings, pushrods, and pushrod tubes. What started as a simple bar install turned into a completely stripped down bike with the exception of the top end.

Added some black mid control brackets. The brake lever and shifter and kickstand will have to be done in black too when the time arrives.

Hopefully your risers have the bushings in them too. I would also check the riser bolts to make sure they are nice and snug as on the Dyna there is so much vibration from the A motor that it can really shake stuff loose. My riser bolts were a lot looser than I thought they should be although I am aware that the service manual torque spec is not very high.
