I first pulled my carb and lifted my needle one notch (Mikuni) to try and sort out my flat spot I was experiencing. Took the bike for a ride and it still had a flat spot. Hmmmm. I decided to put the ignition in and see if that would help. I discovered I already had an S/E ignition part 92702-01A on the bike. It is for sale if someone wants it. I set the Twin Tec and put it in. Well, my buddy set the Twin Tec since I understand nothing about spark advance (well I understand a little now) but enough to actually make sense of it.
I took it for a spin and surprise, surprise no flat spot. The idle is much smoother, the bike starts much easier, and it rides great. I do feel I had a little more power with the S/E ignition in certain places but this is better all around. I did some high speed runs on the freeway and it runs great. So who wants to buy the S/E ignition? I figure it can pay for half of my Twin Tec.
We'll see how the fuel economy is after readjusting the accelerator pump screws and moving the slide along with this new ignition but my guess is that why my mileage was alwyas so poor on this bike, averaging about 32. Granted, I have a tough time riding at a slow pace. Regardless, this bike rides great now. I am yet to experience a kick back on a warm start but we'll see what happens with that as time progresses.
We did not use a computer. I'll have to see if he remembers. All I remember is 6 instead of 5 on one. I am not sure on teh other. He'll chime in here in a bit when he reads this. kk6pg?
The only thing I don't like on the DK Primo pedals, is that the mounting piece is to long. I trimmed an inch off of mine, and still could trim more. I've lost quite a bit of lean angle.
I scraped mine yesterday even with my 14" shocks. It is nice to have a little real estate to move around on while on teh highway though. It is a double edged sword.
Daytona Tiwen Tec says that the rear cylinder will knock first that is why I retarded it one deg. at +6 on the advance I noticed a slight knock when I would rev the engine in neutral, I have noticed a chirping sound when excelerating under heavy load? I thought was the clutch but it sounds like it is coming from the front cylinder. I will take it to the guy that built it and have him take it for a spin, he has not ridden it since I broke it in so I want to get his opinion. I had the SE ignition and had issiues with it under steady load at around 70 mph felt like it was running out of gas?
