I bought my 06 FXDCI used and it came equipped with mids, highway and mustache bar.
I'm 5' 11' and found the mids painful, never used the mustache bar, and used the highway pegs but didn't feel comfortable having my feet away from the controls. I removed the mids, mustache bar, and added forwards. I feel most comfortable using the forwards. If and when I need another foot position, I stop the bike and use the ground. I also added mini apes, which helps keeps things comfortable (bars are also a hot topic).

I'm happy with my set up, but as others have said, you gotta go with what works for you.

I run standard forward controls, i should switch to extended forward controls but i don't want to lose any more control of the bike. I am 6'3, and feel the forwards are like mids based on my size.

Get out of the desert and head for Big Bear or Arrowhead and you will drag your heels with forwards too if you push it at all.

I'm the same height as you man, you need to retain SOME bend in your knees so you have room to manipulate the bike, go any further and you'll overextend yourself. An extended setup is really needed if you're taller than 6'6".

I have been riding mids with hwy pegs on every bike ive owned since i started riding back in 79. Definitely more function for the shorter inseam like myself at 5' 7", better control. Doesnt look as cool though.

+1 More options is always better.

My dyna came with forwards. I hated them. Felt awk to me. So I put the mids back on and highway pegs. Best combo around and 800 mile days are doable when you aren't stuck in one position the entire ride.

I'm 5'6" and put a set of the adjustable highway pegs on (blacked out of course) last month. On every ride since, I have noticed that my feet are on the highway pegs 95% of the time. As a matter of fact, I don't use the rear brake that much so my right foot is almost always on the highway peg now and my left foot is only on the mid peg while I am shifting the bike. Having to put my feet back on the mid pegs now feels more like a nuisance and is awkward/cramped up feeling as well. My bike is more of a cruiser/bar-hopper and I ride it that way (most of the time) so I have not noticed any loss of control or comfort over the mids.

I am going to ride out the rest of the season with this setup but I am almost positive I will be converting to the Reduced Reach Forward Control kit this winter but I will be leaving my mid pegs on because I like having the alternate foot position.
