Looking at a 2001 bike with 5,000 miles. Anything particular to look for? Are there issues with so few miles? I'm thinking old tires, dry gaskets/seals, etc. Am I right or is it a non-issue? Thanks!
Change fluids and tires, run some seafoam through it and I think you'll be fine. When I got mine it had 6000 miles on it and was a 2000, got it 3 years ago.
really depends on the climate too, check with the owner ask how long since last start. Carbed bike too, probably old gas in the tank and carb. I would have the carb cleaned and drain the tank. You maybe be able to add some stabilizer before starting depending on what the current owner tells you about run history.
My '90 Sporty had 2k on it and it was just fine. Check the inside of the tank for rust and smell the fuel for varnish. It may need a carb rebuild and tires (mine did) but it didn't leak a drop.
Check the date-codes on the tires to determine how long its been since they were made. Any tire 7yrs old/older, no matter how good they look, would be cause for new rubber.
Do the fuel system maintenance as has been suggested. I suspect you will change all the fluids...
Nice find!
