I bought the low profile (12" between the centers of the eye holes.) They dropped the back of the bike 1". If you want stock length just order the stock length air shocks for a touring bike. No mods needed they just bolt on like the stockers. The chrome covers that slip over the top mounting bolt will need a littletrim with a file on the bottomif you want to re-use them. I like the look of the bike without them on. The air lines hook up to the shocks and then to a schrader valve that I will be mounting under the seat. If I'm riding 2 up I just add a couple pounds of air. They change the whole look of the bike and the ride...smoooth.
May I ask why you went with air shocks?? I have them on mt 99FLHT, stock from the factory and have considered them for my FXD..the main reason would be for a smoother ride because of my bad back..do you find them smoother then your stock ones were?
I went with them for the look. Blacked out with little rubber gators ties them in with the front of my bike. The bonus was thatthey are very much smoother. Like riding on a cloud.
I bought mine new because of a 20 0/0 off sale at the local dealer. You can find the stockers for about $50 used on ebay. The low profiles are harder to get and run around $150 on ebay. Then if they don't come with them your in for another $50 for the air lines, plugs and valve. Good luck
