I'm running Works Steel Trackers with black springs. They're the same as the other shocks but cost a little less becaue they aren't chrome or coated. I paid about $430 for mine. There are better shocks out there. The works are much better than stock and the rear end is predictable, but the ride is not plush and big bumps still kick me off the seat. They are great when I've got the bike railed into a corner, but I'm thinking of upgrading to something from Howard at motorcycle metal. All off his stuff I would consider is at least twice what I paid for the works shocks, so I'd say they're middle of the road. The only thing I cut was the preload spacer, about 15 times. I'm planning to run preload adjusters from speed merchant so I can dial in the sag without having to pull the caps and cut the spacers over and over. True track, single rate spring, intimidators, quality rear shocks, and a fork brace will put your bike on rails.

Whatever end you start on will highlight the shortcomings of the other end. The forks are cheaper to do.

I would highly recomend the ricor shocks for the 600 price range. Do a search on Muds post with his install comparing them to his ohlins.

Here is a pic that Mud took of the ricors. I think they are a pretty good looking shock.
If looks mean anything, those must be sweet! I am putting them on the top of rear shock list.

well I cheaped out for now beacuse I am going to russia for 2 weeks soon.

so I bought vrod muscle shocks. I think they will be better than air shocks for the rear.

I will be getting springs intiminators and preload adjustors for the front

then a true track

thanks for the advice though. works shocks will be down the road and maybe I will have a little extra scrill to get something from motorcycle metal at that time

With the new springs, intiminators, preload adjusters, fork brace and new oil etc it seems more expensive but maybe not compared to some of the more custom rear shocks. Thanks for all the info, I think the rear shocks will come first because they appear less complicated - I think I will keep reading on the front end info for awhile, like rereading your thread.

Since you put it that way I guess the front is more expensive. I'm planning to run JRI shocks in the future which are over $1000.

I just got my JRIs delivered. They were not as expensive as everybody thinks they are. They look badass too. If you go through motorcycle metal, he will take very good care of you. Also his website is really informative.
