I've got torque wrenches, and I just picked up a 30mm socket for the clutch. Yes, it is 30mm but 30mm = 1.18" or 1 and just shy of 2.90/16ths. I imagine either would work, as 1.1/16ths isn't a lot of play. The 30mm socket worked like a charm. The ring pliers I didn't have but I made do. I'll probably pick up a set of those when I go to re-install, have to head down to the centre in a bit anyway.

I do also have the shop manual, but reading and doing are sometimes different. I'm not having a problem, just taking my time. My torque wrench goes both ways.

Regarding not removing the primary: It would be hard for me to replace the inner/outer primary with chrome that way... I've made my decision now I have to stick with it

I just installed a HD 05 forward control kit on my 2006 Streetbob. Everything needed was in the kit. I did not need a longer shift lever. As for the the old shifter, I just positioned it where I wanted it, and put the chrome cap supplied in the kit on. I also left my mid pegs on, just to have another place to rest my legs, which are short (30" inseam) in case they get uncomfortable on the forward controls. The forward controls are not as high as the highway pegs, which were a little too far for me.
The worse part about doing this job was removing the insert they used to mount the highway pegs. They are like set screws inserted in the lower mounting hole. The highway pegs have only one mounting hole and a pin, where the forward controls have two mounting holes.
I can't see going thru the trouble of removing the primary covers to do this. Hardly worth the effort.

davidchristopher,
Sounds like you are having a fun time doing this, sort of. Probably as much as I did. In the end though, it really was not to bad. There is definately an easier way to do it, but oh well. I like to see the way things come apart and go together, so this was my chance to do it. I wish you the best of luck.
Also just a note, the conversion of 30mm to standard is 1.1811, 1 1/8" is 1.125, so the 1 1/8" is .0561 bigger, not much but when I tried the 1 1/8" socket is wobbled a small bit. I honestly did use the 1 1/8" socket to remove it, but looking at the nut you could see a small indent where the socket looked as if it was mushrooming the nut ever so slightly and the 30mm fit better. I suppose that either would work, but I prefer to use the tigher tolerance socket, just a note.
Good luck David!

Well, I can understand why you might think it's not worth it... but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

(pardon the crappy camera phone pic)

I bought mine off of Ebay the are Kuryakyn. $295.00 shipping included. I personally didn't care for the HD ones after riding with forward pegs for several months. Just my personal prefference though.

Here is a link to another post on a little addition to the Kuryakyn forward controls. Not trying to hijack you thread, just want to show what I have done with my forward controls so you can see a few options.

I installed everything myself and saved alot of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

I wanted to get the Kurys, but heard there was trouble with the splines not matching on the shifter. Did you have any trouble?
