Default New to the Harley world

My brother wanted me to figure out why his 01 Fatboy's speedo wasn't working last week on Tuesday. I ended up riding home on a 2013 Dyna Super Glide on Sunday. ( his was a VSS btw )

I'm coming from a 1100 Shadow ( which hasn't run in years ). Went in looking at the 883 but it was smaller than I expected, I'm 5'10". 220 lbs, didn't even bother sitting on it.

I've clicked 300 miles on it and already have a small laundry list of things I need/want to do. In order of importance

1. Pipes - V&H Staggered Short Shots
2. Kuryakyn ISO pegs
3. Larger Headlight
4. Pro Charger or K&N cone style filter
5. Turn Signal relocation
6. Pull back handlebars
7. Forward controls

1 and 3 are the ones I have questions on.

What is the consensus on remapping after changing pipes. I had two different dealers say two different things. One says yes, must be tuned. Other says no, only when you change the air cleaner.

If I do need to tune, should I just buy a tuner or will this void the warranty ? Will I need to put the bike back stock when I take it in for its 1k service ?

Next question, will the following headlight fit in the tree or will it hit the frame tube behind it ? Worst case, ill get a piece of aluminum flat stock and extend it forward. Do you think this will look too big on the bike ?

Thanks a lot guys

You don't need a tuner for pipes only, and some folks even say their bike runs fine after changing to a free flowing air cleaner. But keep in mind these bikes are set up very lean from the factory to meet EPA standards, so technically you could see gains from tuning a bone stock bike. My point is, you can go ahead and install your exhaust and not worry about hurting anything, but your bike will run better (and cooler) after using some sort of tuning device. There are plenty of options out there, so read some posts and get a feel for what works for your needs. But I recommend checking with Fuel Moto who is a sponsor of this site and has a stellar reputation for customer service.

+1 you don't need one for pipes only. You may want to check out the FL Vied-10 from nightrider.com. They will help from just pipes to a full stage 1. http://sales.nightrider.com/Dyna_c_24.html

Congrats on your new Harley.Just pipes,no tune needed. I just had a Cobra Fi2000 auto turner installed. Seems to be working good so far.

Ordered the pipes today, hopefully I'll be installing them next week. Bike sounds so tame right now.
