I want to change my tank emblems on my 12 fxdc...currently running the night train emblems...and i really like them...but i got a decent deal on a set of cvo breakout emblems...when i say decent i mean $150 a set...is it a pain in the **** to remove the old emblems? Is there a certain tape i should be using?? And are there any tricks in getting them on correctly?? Any input would be great thanks...also if anyone has changed their emblems on this model...pics would be much appreciated

well i remove nameplates using a heat gun if i dont want to screw them up
then i use a wide scraper.
we use double faced tape to reinstall nameplates
removing of the old tape on the metal
there is a eraser wheel u can buy at local bodyshop supplier
attach it to a drill and with light pressure remove the old tape from the tank
use a wax n grease remover after
and thats it
all done
I changed the emblems on my bob. I used dental floss to saw the old ones off. The originals were stuck on with a kinda foam tape that i had to work with my thumb for a while then 3M adhesive remover i got from the paint shop to clean the remainder off. It was kinda a pain in the ****.
The new badges i got had the adhesive tape already installed, i just had to peel and stick. I used a flexible tape measure to locate where i wanted them to sit then marked (in my case) with a pencil. What i shoulda done was measure before i removed the old ones so i had some sort of reference where they are supposed to sit
The pinstripe on the tank is what makes me a bit nervous about changing them...since these emblems are smaller and of a different shape i hope it will flow nice wih the tank..soo pics would be great
The adhesive tape they use is pretty strong. I use a hair dryer to soften up the tape, then gently work a piece of fishing line behind the emblem puling outwards, then I spray some WD 40 behind the emblem (lubes the fishing line and helps release the adhesive). Continue to work the fishing line downwards in a sawing motion while pulling it towards you. I've done it that way several times without any damage. When you're done wipe the tank down several times with wax and grease remover to remove the WD 40.
