so i realize this is of topic but look at what happened to the bracket for my bub 7 2-1. this is the craddle part that goes from the bracket to the muffler. they put slots in it so you can install the slash cut down or up.
seems like a sweet idea ontill this happens
then this is the fix, stronger than ever
Its a shame that alot of us have to rework already expensive parts so they fit or work properly. At this point in my build I have come to the conclusion that even if a part includes hardware, I expect to have to do some improvements before I will be happy with the install.
Right in that's what I thought thanks man. Your bracket seems to have a lot more weld on it than mine. Wonder if I sould re weld that when I have the pipe powdered
my bracket looked like yours, it was just tacked welded. took the mig and added some weld and sand blasted the weld area. primed & painted.
Just a FYI but the powder coating I had done on my thunder header burnt and chipped off. Not sure if buddy that did it used the wrong stuff or what. It was a real bitch to sandblast off after it looked like hell. Mine gets a blast and recoat of VHT every winter now.
I had mine ceramic coated , but it has zero miles since so no word on how well it'll hold . A buddy of mine had a set of headers done for a 600hp chevy engine at the same time , and 10k miles later they still look good .
( Just to clear it up )
The only reason he has 10k miles , and I don't is due to my work schedule dragging my re-build way farther then I would have liked .
This is such a reacuring problem with their brackets..I mean the op's picture with pretty well a tac weld is just waiting to break..Im hoping thunderheader looks at forums and takes peoples problems with their products into consideration of improving design..I will still be buying a thunderheader for my bike this year yes..but im hoping theyre a stand up business to improve product for longevity.. a little bit more weld like the 2nd picture is the least they can do..maybe even a gusset on the back side or something..but after 700+ we shouldnt have to be worrying about improvements..isnt that theyre job?

I'm going to send mine to the powder pro after I have it twisted, yours probably was not done with the high temp powder, a lot of powder shops don't have ovens that will cook hot enough to bake the stuff.

I doubt they'll change anything, it's been a problem for a long time. People that want that sound will buy the pipe even knowing that it's borderline junk and they know that. It does suck that after paying that much for a pipe that you gotta fix the brackets, change the hardware, and eventually re coat it, but they know people will buy it anyway. If they were to improve it I'm sure the price would reflect it. The thing that drives me crazy the most is that the heat shields fit so terribly, I'd like to run them and not have all my pants with holes in the right leg, but the shields look like garbage

damn hey..yepp ppl pay for the sound..before i even knew what the pipe was i thaught why the hell they got that ugly unfinished pipe on that nice bike haha..but its the sound..as for the shields..i heard ppl of chopping up and using the stock shields..then gettin em ceramic coated to match..? im handy and like playin around in the shop so maybe i might try this
Ya could very well be that the guy didn't know what he was doing or didn't have the proper equipment , some of the other powder coated stuff on my bike ain't the best job in the world.
