Default Sheild Blocking High Beam

Got the bike out for the first ride in the dark. Low beams seemed to give off a decent amount of light, hit the country a flick on the highs and can't see crap. I get a good reflection off of my shield and that's about it. So I figure I have the shield too low, pull over and try to slide it up, nope, already as high as I can go. So I guess I'm driving the rest of the way to work with my low beams. Get to work and I notice the light is about 2" in further than the shield so I'm guessing that has to be the problem. Ok, so there must be a bracket or something that gets the headlight out further but the problem with that is i don't think there is that much play in the wire to extend it that far. Has anyone ever run into this before? Suggestions?

Pull the shield off and see if there really is a difference.

If you don't have much experience with the HD light at night, you may be expecting something different.

I am a Midnight worker so I have done lots of night riding. The low beam will give you a better view of the road. The high beam puts out a wider beam but more diffused or "un-focused".

You can see a little further out, but not as well as you can see the closer stuff on low beam.

Does that make sense the way I am trying to explain?

I have upgraded to a Silverstar buln and removed the metal difuser in the headlight housing and it is better than stock but nothing to get excited about.

Plenty of night riding experience, just the first on this Harley

I don't know what model your bike is, but you might want to try one of these.

They are also available aftermarket or used in the forum classified, ebay, etc.

Thanks everyone for the help. I think I may try this route first, it's cheap enough and I like the looks of it also so if it doesn't work no real loss.
