Filtering is moving up when traffic is stopped. Lane splitting is passing when traffic is moving. [soapbox] Drivers are generally so obnoxious, clueless and distracted here in the colonies I'd never consider doing either. Also, lots of states prohibit one or both. [/soapbox]
After four days of heat, got a nice 70 mile ride in Sunday morning during a brief window of opportunity. Suppose to cool down considerably next week. Approaching 27K.
Hi there. I'm looking for advice about heat shields.
I was cleaning my bike and discovered that the heat shield on the rear down pipe has come loose. The jubilee clips are still firmly in place, so it seems that the spot-welded brackets they pass through on the back of the heat shield have detached from the shield itself. Only the one at the top is still attached (otherwise the shield would have fallen off). So I checked the heat shield on the front down pipe and realise that this is only attached in two out of three places (which perhaps explains its tendency to rattle).
The total cost of replacing both heat shields is about Ł300 (about $375). So I'm wondering if others have had this problem and, if so, have found a way of repairing the heat shields rather than replacing them?
Or, if you're in UK and have a set of heat shields you're willing to sell, please message me!
For the first time in the 5 years I have had the Low Rider; I actually washed it yesterday. Before that it was just strap some detailer and wipe it off.

Same here. Washed only once by dealer. Have had many detailings done without washing.
I'd been wondering about using small screws, but pop rivets could be a good alternative. Obviously, they would show on the outside of the shield, but at least they would look neat and purposeful. I wonder how easy it is to drill the necessary holes in those shields?!
