Got the tank, carb & cam cover off tonight.
I will start taking the top end and cam chest apart in the next two days.
I will be checking the pinion shaft for run out as I intend to put gear drive cams in as long as the run out is within the .003" or less spec. that S&S calls for.
Got a bit more done on the tear down done last night.
Got the cam plate and oil pump removed. The cam chain tensioners looked to be in about the same shape they were in when I checked them a few winters ago.
And of course the pushrods and rocker arms were also removed.
With everything removed I checked the pinion shaft run out and was very happy to see that in was .002" T.I.R. The gear drive cams will be used.
The cams will be ordered this weekend.

That shoe looks good ...Original? how many miles?
How about the Inner?, since you have the plate off
Hey Tat, just so you know these updates on your piece of art are GREATLY appreciated by your fellow Dyna lovers. The slow and steady progress shared over nearly three years of posting on this forum is a great example of taking one's time and enjoying the ride (wasn't meant to be a play on words but it fits).
In addition, I'm not speaking out of school when I say we are in awe at your "matter of fact" attitude when it comes to tearing your bike apart and upgrading it to the highest standards. It's a talent we all wish we had but few actually do.
So thanks for continued sharing. It's fun to witness the progress on what may be the Best of the Best!

I got I little more done this past week.
The intake and heads are now off.
The stock jugs and pistions will be taken off together with the pistions staying in the jugs.
That way they can be put back in service without having to re-ring them.
