I went with the 583 easy start cams and love them , a little noisy when she is spooling down
That was one I was considering but when I talked to the guys at S&S they said for what I have planed it would be going backwards. They recommended the 570 or 585 cams. I decided to go with the 570's. I have a 585 in my West Coast Chopper and have driven several baggers with the 585 and I do like them , I just wanted to try something different.
Last piece to remove was the oil filter mount. It will be replaced with a S&S billet one that has provisions for an oil cooler hook up if I choose to do so.
Now the clean up and assembly can start. Hope to get the cam chest all together this weekend.
I got the S&S billet oil filter bracket on and instaled the cleaned K&P lifetime oil filter. Another great feature of this bracket is it moves the filter out a bit more than the stock one that allows for easier removal/install of the oil filter and a bit more air flow.
The S&S oil bracket was polished Alum. that I got black anodized.
Here is the S&S cam plate with the 570 gear drive cams installed in the plate and then installed in the cam chest.
I got a smokin' deal on the 570 gear drive cam kit that I couldn't refuse. A distributor in Canada was selling off all there S&S stock. I actually bought them for the gear set only, my intention was to use the set of gears for feuling 574 cams.
I then looked at the S&S cams again and had my mind set on the 583's and seen in the catalog that I could not just buy the cams only and had to buy them in a gear kit.
I then called S&S and asked them about the cams , and after the conversation they said with what I was doing/wanted the 583's would have been going backwards and the better choice was the 570's or the 585's. So I will use the cams that I bought and if I don't like them I will change them out.
I didn't want the esey start cams because I am putting manual comp. releases in the heads. This way I am not limited to using S&S cams only.
