S&S Single tuned induction air filter cheaper installation
Hey,
I accidentally bought the wrong SE Heavy breather, so I just sold that one and I'm now without a (good) air filter.
I was browsing the web for new filters and found the ultra cool S&S tuned induction air filter. The price for the filter and the intake kit is about 250,- here and that's fine by me
the problem is that those bastard have a nice bracket that you need to purchase with this filter for another 250,-... and that's just plain to much for a bracket. I'm sure it 's a great build and outstanding quality, i'm just refusing to pay that kind of money for a bracket.
So I was wondering if anyone knew if I could just bolt the filter to my intake housing and get 2 breather filters for the heads ...
S&S bolt pattern is different than any other harley breather.....it won't bolt up w/o their bracket. They make great stuff, but why they would so something stupid like that is beyond me.

Does anyone have a good reason why not to bolt it directly on the intake?? Since my little knowledge of combustion engines can't really think of any good reason not to....
That's what in saying. W/o the adapter that they sell you will have to fab something else that will bolt to your tbody then have a different bolt pattern to match the S&S.
Otherwise if you just get their intake it won't bolt to your tbody.

Ah,
Hmmm let me try to find a picture of the back of it and see how the bolt patern is
The way the intake is designed,[carb or FI] is simply not strong enough without the bracket. It is flexible where it meets the heads. The extra weight hanging there will shake loose, start to leak, and eventually fall off.
Years ago I put a carb & tiny a/c on a sportster, seemed rigid without any 'extra' support. The carb actually wiggled loose in just a couple miles and fell off, hanging from the gasline and throttle cable.[they don't run well without a carb]

EFI intake's are strong enough, all the air filters i've owned are mounted on the intake alone... including the HD original one
