Haha, this always happens to me as well. All I know for sure is that it leaks regardless of which way I put it back on. (And sorry, I have no idea which way is correct...)

You may have your answer but the key is to have the level correct but most of all not overtightening. The system is not vented to outside. The vent is the bellow in the gasket. So start with the gasket bellow flat and the slotted vent side up. (That slot vents the bellow side to air) Now come down till the screws snug. (forget torque wrench since bellow gasket vary with age.) With the screw just snug, check your top that it appears even all around to make sure it is not bowed. All looks good? Then turn the screws down till you just notice and fill the gasket bulge out. Be sure not to bulge it so far as to cover slot slits in cover. That spring of the rubber will keep the screws tight. If it still leaks, you need a new lid and gasket, probably from being overtightened or sun age. Note, do not think it maters but on mine, the thicker side of the cover faces to the trees.

Thank you for the info. I have the cap on backwards. I found some instructions online that the thick side of the cap should be facing the forks. I will use Ripsaw's tightening method when turning it around. It was on correctly from the factory I just installed it backwards. If I am wrong please let me know. Thanks again.

Not 100% sure it matters but my thick side faces to the trees. I have never found this in any service manuals. Also as a clarification, the cover has the air slots you need to be careful and not squeeze gasket into. That way, when the pistons come back and push fluid into the masters, the bellow expands rather then the fluid pressure pushing on the gasket seal.
