Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
hey all. Just bought this 07 Electraglide classic, 41k miles. As far as i know, no mods/builds have been done to it. I recently had an issue when I filled the tank (only use high octane), the bike would not start. Would crank, but not start. It did this twice. Once when engine at operating temp and once when at lower temp (10 minute ride). Had the stealership come get it the second time. 4 weeks, new starter (starter had issues when at operation temp) and a new compensator later and she ran fine for about 2 weeks. At the present, I am hearing a "knock" out of the top end, it seems like. Also have a whirring sound coming from the front. CEL comes on and goes of intermittently, more on than off.
bike seems to run fine. No idle issues, full power under throttle. When I downshift, she backfires once or twice and then runs fine. Throttle seems hesitant when throttling up for the clutch release during downshift (if that makes sense).
does anyone have any idea what my issue could be?
bike is under Harleys extended "warranty", so it would probably go back in the shop for another month long repair....
Jumped on this morning and had no CEL. Rode about 1/2 mile down the road and pulled over for a sec. Put the hazards on for a bit, maybe 30 seconds. Turned the hazards off, looked down and the security light was on (little key looking guy). The security light stayed on for about 15 miles then went out. Shortly after (@ about 25 miles into the ride) the CEL came back on and again was intermittent, off and on for the remainder of my ride. Still hearing the knock (maybe more of a tick) in the upper end. More so on the right side of the motor. More prominent in the rear jug area than the front.
Maybe not important, but the left exhaust seems to have less pressure than the right, using the cupping hand test, and seems to produce less "sound" than the right.
Any Ideas fellas?
Ride it til it goes and let Harley deal with it?
Just checked the Codes. P0118 popped up. I cleared the code and double checked the ET sensor. We will see if this makes a difference or it the DTC pops back up...
DTC hasn't popped again and it seems like the engine has smoothed out a bit. It doesn't pop or spit when I crack the throttle on downs shift and the erratic idle has stopped for the most part. She seems to have quicker throttle response as well. The clicking/whirring noise at the top end is still there and it seems like shes trying to suck more air than she has the ability to. Ive checked the air cleaner and its in good shape. Going to replace the plugs today. They seem a bit corroded on the porcelain and upper parts. If they are still good, Ill just save them.
Any ideas? Lots of people have viewed but no one has responded....
