Engine Mechanical TopicsDiscussion for motor builds, cams, head work, stripped bolts and other engine related issues. The good and the bad. If it goes round and around or up and down, post it here.
I wouldn't say it's "struggling" in the mid range, pretty flat up to that point. Without the cam card it's just speculation, but I'd guess they're on the larger side as an attempt to crutch the stock heads.
What I mean is that dip, while not a big one, is in a really bad area in the scheme if things to be losing power of any magnitude.
While it's hard to say exactly where without cam specs like you said, but power should be ramping UP in that area. If the cams don't or aren't supposed to come on til like 4000rpm, then they're an even.worse choice than I thought considering how early they die as well.
That compression ratio is useless really. What I really wanted to know is corrected compression. Hard to say what that is based on the compression ratio without cam specs too. A compression test would have to be done.
Seems to me I recall those Grand Nationals having a real late dip like that only worse in.another build not too long ago.
Looks like they come on at 3500 and done at 5500 according to that 103 dyno. Now that's a nice flat curve.

You really don't understand cams/motors do you.. Both are important.. Corrected compression is only good from idle to the somewhere around mid range then dynamic takes over. All 3 are important.. Dynamic is harder to figure.
When I see charts like this I see a pipe with two torque peaks instead of a dip, damn fine outcome for a stock head little motor IMO. Probably just a port job away from 130+hp
Where are you at? No shop. Just a garage. I sent the heads and jugs off to Don Dorfman, HD Street Performance. One of the best at getting heads to flow. Got mine flowing 320cfm @ 28" 7000rpm. 1.980/1.615 valves.
Don did my cylinders and heads for my 107 build also and killed it. I went with S&S 585 cams and it rips. I'm a big fan of the KB pistons he uses. Your numbers are great, you have a great setup it sounds like and everything plays nice together as it should with a designed build.
Got out for 236 miles today , put a big smile on my face . She gets up to triple digits quick , roll on 5th gear passing on 2 lane , it's a completely different bike , it just doesn't stop pulling. Vary smooth acceleration , vary happy with it.

I believe he was referencing my dyno sheet ( post #6 ) vs the one in post #26 , same build , same shop , different bike that I posted as a comparison showing the difference in the curve with a V&H Pro-pipe instead of the Fullsac pipe I'm running.
This is my motor's dyno sheet with the Fullsac DX pipe ...
No matter how it is perceived, as long as your are content, 'for now' LOL, nice build. Stay safe on those 2-lanes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
