A good pair of side cutters and it'll come off nicely.. is there a way you can keep your fuel pressure gauge connected the whole time so you can watch what it's doing when you start it and then dies. Also what I do for videos I upload to YouTube to my YouTube account then I copy the link and paste it into the forms and it works perfect..
Yes, I can keep the pressure gauge connected and start/run the bike. The gauges acts the same, rolls up to just under 20psi, holds for just a second or two and drops back to zero. I am thinking the pump presurrizes the system and the motor starts up and idles till the fuel under pressure has been consumed. Ed made reference to failed "new" parts from FPF. I have sent and email to FPF to see what they have to say. Of course, I am just guessing but if the lines are secure between the fuel pump and filter and the exit line secure from the regulator to the check valve and the lines are new, kinda points at the pump?
I'll bet your old pump is ok and the only issue you had was the supply line to the tank bib that broke.. unless I missed something somewhere.. It's worth a shot..
Maybe but if you will recall the filter sock had completely disentegrated and there was very little of that material remaining in the tank so most of it probably landed in the filter. No way will I complete a do over with the old pump and I won't be using another FPF pump unless it's free. I still have to pull out the assembly and see what's what, more to come.
I would use the old pump or a good used one and find a new sock. I have read and know personally people who got bad FPF pumps out of the box. Only other thought is a bad o-ring on the regulator or filter, or bad regulator.

@DLJ with checking pressure, were the injectors connected? If so disconnect the hose and test again.
Injectors connected; never disconnected. Are you referring to the hose from the check valve to the fuel rail? I tried 3-4 times while that hose was connected but have not disconnected and tested a second time; I will do that next. What are you thinking?
Regulator base? The plastic housing for the regulaltor?

Ed, I have attached pictures of the OEM regulator and the FPF regulator. They looked different so I sent the photos to the FPF and they confirmed that the regulator in the kit was correct.
I am afraid of the OEM pump now; I want this redo to be the only one but kind of agree with Bob (98hotrodfatboy) that the broken exit line might have been the failure and repacing that line and the sock would have been the fix but WTFDIK?

Yes. With the hose going to the fuel rail, the injectors might be leaking. Disconnect eliminates them.. Ed says the pump might be an issue.. Another is the plastic regulator / filter mount. Some have managed to crack them..
