Default Yes, you were perfectly right.

Pumped the S&S lifters with oil, filled the holes with assembley lube, and installed the lifters and the covers. Now just waiting for the Cometic MLS 0.030” from USA.

Default Question about intake milling

Heads lowered from stock positon:
Earlier milling 0.011”. Lowering 0.011”
0.030” MLS. Stock 0.045”. (0.045-0.030=0.015) Lowering 0.015”
Total lowering (0.011+0.015=0.026) 0.026”

How much milling on manifold intake surfaces?
Read somewhere half of the head lowering. So then I should ask the machine guy to mill the intake manifold surfaces with 0.013” (0,33 mm). Am I thinking right here?

Appreciate to hear from your knowledge.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think it's enough to worry about at those numbers. I never did it.

Ok, thanks. Trying to figure it out myself, and I think Chat TGP is not right. It told me 0.013" on each side. To me it looks like 0.0058" (0,147 mm) on each side, when I draw it geometrically. And it is not much as you say.

Test fit the manifold once the heads are back on, chances are it will be fine or just need a slight stroke of a single cut bastard to snug it in.

Yup, I've got a set that are cut .092. Took way more than a single stroke but just fit.

Made a mistake. If the intake surfaces are in 45 degrees angle along with the cylinders, a lowering of 0.026" of the heads would render a need for milling the manifold surfaces by 0.0107” (0,272 mm), and thus Chat TGP is about right and the rule of milling half of the lowering height is reasonable. I am sorry if added confusion to this. Milling half on each side of the manifold of what you have lowered the heads seems to be a good idea.

Or to be more exact, pull 59 % from how much you lower the heads from stock height and mill the intake surfaces with that (0.026-59%=0.01066)

Try to fit the manifold before doing any milling. I have installed intake manifolds with more of a "drop" than the OP is dealing with without any "milling". The OP will be kicking himself if he cuts the intake and has leaking seals in the future; just sayin. BTW, I have caught ChatGpt getting things wrong several times. I suggest that the OP reply to Chat Gpt and tell it that several members of a Harley Davidson technical forum have advised that the intake does not have to be milled and see how Chat Gpt replies.
