I posted on this forum just a week or so ago about a (new to me) 1984 FXRDG I just picked up. I had the tins off to detail them, so the only wires I even *touched* were two under the dash console, nothing else. Well I put it back together yesterday, and no start. Pull the plugs one at a time and no spark. So I drag out the manual, and do the various resistance tests and according to the results, I have a bad module AND a bad sensor! How is this even possible? Bike was running when I brought it home, battery is okay and was fully charged when I tried to start it. I want to make sure there is something else I am not missing, do not want to just start 'throwing parts' at it!. Any input would be most appreciated!
Thanks for the reply. I did notice that the ignition switch will 'wiggle' slightly when it is in one of the two positions, and almost seems crunchy when you move it, not quite smooth. Considering its relatively low cost, I ordered a new one.. so I can at least rule it out, if nothing else.
You can do a search on here for ignition switch cleaning. Go back where you were and check all the connections. You may have just knocked something loose. If it was running when you got it it should be running now.
You can also make a spaded connector jumper wire (12 gauge) and plug it into the connector for the ignition switch ( jump it out) and see if it will turn over....
I had to do that on the road one time to get home. A local auto dealership helped me out with some parts. Totally cool.....

--Crashzone...I really did not do anything with wires! I took the seat, front fender and tank off...that's it!
--98hotrodfatboy... I am not sure the ignition switch is even bad, but it does seem loose/maybe a little worn inside, but when I turn the key to on, I do have 12V at the coil, and the starter does spin the motor, just no spark!
--texashillcountry... I do not disagree with what you are saying, but in the course of my little detail job, I only disconnected three wires under the dash, a green wire, black wire and a round wire with a strange connector on it, and they all went back to the same place.
