I can get 48 mpg pretty easy by keeping it under 65 on the highway.
You can ride on the freeway in DFW area at 65 or less and not die? Do not ever come to Houston as they will run you over and laugh as they go by.
I'm rarely under 70 in the 60 mph loop around town and they're still passing me. I-10 runs 75-85 going west zoned for 75.
I ran to Port Lavaca with the guys and got 38 with my 96" motor in the dresser. Best I have ever seen, but I'm 6" 6" and 300 lbs pretty much.
4200 mile road trip to SD and around the west got me 27 average towing a homebuilt cargo trailer and 2 up with my 113" S&S motor. It does the same solo running 70-75. About 30-32 with the 96" running the same speeds.
I'm on the throttle a lot though. I didn't build it for mileage, it was built for "smileage" instead.
Yeah, its not too bad in Ft.Worth. Dallas is a different story. I live about 20 miles west of there and do a lot of riding on the farm to market roads. I dont get in any hurry. I go to Houston all the time but I dont think I would ride my bike there. Ive been wanting to ride to Galveston but the thought of going through Houston.....
One of my favorite sports is running the loop around town. Up early on a Saturday and hop up on the 610 loop and do the 40+/_ miles around town as quickly as possible and without getting stopped.
Crap! No wonder I don't get any mileage out of that motor...
Just checked mine when I filled up today. 40 mpg. All back roads and in town riding. Still like a giddy schoolgirl with the new cam. It should get a bit better when I get tired of jumping on the throttle. Although that may never happen!
Just checked mine again tonight: 38 mpg. This is normal for my commute (1/3 stop-n-go, 2/3 interstate), which is a tad under 35 miles total. I fill up every 4 days.
So, I went on a long ride today. Ended up with 45 mpg. My low milage numbers noted earlier (32mpg) must be 1 - city driving or 2 - The bike is a 97 with 9k miles, as purchased by myself, must just needed to be out running at continuous highway speeds.
