Default Gas milage

I am not sure if my gas milage sucks or maybe I need to improve my riding style. We had a good day yesterday and I got out, filled it up and to checked things out I filled it back up at 44.5 miles and it took 1.9 gal. I just reinstalled a MAP; it is running good but the milage sucks. I thought about filling it up and getting on the highway for milage check. I must admit, I was in it thru out thoose 44.5 miles (I am sure everyone heard the exhaust). Any reccomend. It has a cam, CFR exhaust and K&N air cleaner.

the right hand can be the biggest factor.

my 1995 80" Evo, stage 1 was good for 45 MPG at 65 MPH, 1 up and loaded. CV Carb, tuned by me

my 2009 FLHTC 96" stage 1 is good for 43 MPG at 70 MPH, 1 up and loaded. for tuning i use XIEDS

these MPG numbers based on thousands of miles of operation

seasonal fuel blends ( Ethanol) may affect MPG by as much as 10%

Your cam choice may also greatly affect MPG depending on cam profile/ timing and rpms

thanks for your time Mike..., but I think I am looking at about 20-21. Its cheaper to roll my VW...., LOL. I will try cruising at a constant speed and see what happens. I guess I did have right hand issues yesterday

I filled up yesterday after a 160 mile ride. About 90% of that was at speed (60-70mph) and some of that was in "cruise control" mode. I was also watching my right hand when I was on the surface streets.

That trip yielded about 40mpg.

Prior to that I wasn't doing but about 30mpg and I attribute that to riding style and the fact that alot of recent riding was just around town and not on the freeway.

So now I realize my mpg can be good if I don't hotrod!

If you are getting MPG's in the 20's, you have a tank leak. More realistically, there was a difference between how much gas was in the tank before your trip, and how high it was when you refilled. Besides, you need a longer trip to really judge MPG. Burn through a entire tank, but at a minimum 100 miles before checking.

What tuning has been done to correct for the mods? Your mileage is awful and suggests that something ain't right!

I agree, before you analyze fuel mileage get enough of a sample to get a true average. I know my new SGS has a different "full" depending on the gas nozzle, that also makes a difference when filling it up after a ride. Honestly I've never checked my mileage, that's not the reason I ride...

You said that you just installed a map, if you checked the reset adaptive fuel when installing he map then the bike has to relearn and your milage will suffer for a tank or two.

Just as others have said, fuel mileage depends on many factors. Conditions, fuel quality, how hard you ride. I can consider myself a heavy handed person on the throttle. I am not easy by as stretch of the imagination. My 97 Dyna will get 42 mpg at 70 mph most times. My 07 Ultra will get about 41 mpg at 75 to 80 mph. Now (still breaking in) my 14 SGS is getting about 38 mpg, but I ride it like I stole it too. These are pretty accurate numbers and I only use Shell Premium 93 Octane.
