To me, a motorcycle should be as simple as possible and a product of a mechanical Industrial Age. I don't want a radio, infotainment, Bluetooth, gps, unnecessary computers or electronics on a motorcycle. I want a motorcycle to have everything I need and nothing I don't. I want it to be modern enough to be reliable but not so modern that it resembles the space shuttle, which I suppose is even obsolete these days as well. I want it to feel like I am riding something substantial and permanent in contrast to today's disposable society . I want it to sound like something exciting is happening instead of sounding like the drone of an electric motor. I want it to remind me of simpler times.

So yeah, I am riding the exact bike that fits that definition. Even the name is right, Heritage Softail Classic.

I suppose another way of putting it is if you are in a band, you could use a drum machine for perfect timing and consistent reproducible fills, but instead, you always use a real life drummer. That drummer may be imperfect and the machine vastly technically superior, but which one is going to make you move?

I couldn't have put it better myself.

Your last comment reminds me of the old joke: "What's the difference between a drummer and a drum machine? You only have to punch the instructions into the drum machine ONCE."
