If it worked for you, it should work for me. Thanks!

Question concerning jetting with the CV. The bike was running well with 165/42 jets with the old butterfly carb. All other things being equal, should I use the same size jets with the CV installed? Tempted to go up to 175/45.

IIRC when I was running a CV on my bike, I ran a 45 pilot and a 185 main jet. This will depend on what pipes/AC/cam you're running, but it's a starting point.

Yeah, I thought of using one of those types of bracket but from what I understand, the stock A/C backing plate needs to be modified or a different A/C altogether. Trying to stay as stock looking as possible.

175/45 is a good starting point for jetting. I ended up 185/75 on my 92. I'm also running the 88 Sportster needle.

What exactly does an 88 Sportster needle do that's different from a stock one?

Is 185/75 a typo? Seems way big.

The CV carb on the 88 Sporty lacked the accelerator pump. So the needle was richer to compensate.
