ROOKY EVO RnR
it has 187000 miles, and began knocking.
I intend to rebuild it over this upcoming winter
Want to get power and lots of miles out of this rebuild.
I've rebuilt chevy 350 and lawn mower engines.
this will be my first motorcycle rebuild.
any and ALL suggestions and advice will be accepted and appreciated
I should get my top end job back from him maybe tomorrow. He suspects I should be somewhere around 90hp and 95ftlbs.
Use good accurate torque wrenches and follow the tightening sequence the manual calls out.
Call Scott at Hillside and talk it over. He'll get you set up.
1.I bought a Cometic gasket kit for the top end and ended up using the base and head gaskets out of it. The Rocker gaskets were too stretched to fit in the grooves and I had to buy HD gaskets which fit perfectly.
2. Buy a good quality torque wrench.
3. I'd recommend buying the Rocker box wrench, it makes life easy.
4. Check your intake flanges and rocker covers for warping. Don't waste your money on the JP's Intake flanges if you have to replace.
5. Take your time putting the intake back together. I'm still fighting a vacuum leak.
6. Take your time assembling the Rockers. It's easy to knock the gaskets out of the grooves or not square them up and then you'll have an oil spray or leak. Either way, it sucks having to tear it apart again.
7. Assemble the Rocker Arms in the Rockers FIRST, before installing the rockers.
8. Pay close attention to how the push rod tubes come apart and go back together.
9. Get a good lift or jack and a comfy chair.
10. You'll need a 12pt socket for the head studs.
11. Take lots of pictures, take your time and enjoy. I did mine in a rush and wasn't happy about it. Neither was my back, see #9.
Watch plenty of Youtube videos. This one helped me a lot.
