I took this as a sign. Since I haven't insured it yet, and the engine serial number isn't on the registration (and it's absolutely loud as hell), I killed it and pushed it back in the garage.

The last thing I want is the CHP throwing my bike in impound on her maiden voyage because I didn't have proper paperwork or insurance at the time.
Yeah that would seriously suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Would makes sense if it was for the flame thrower.

Yea, good spot for a spark plug

Never saw a WBO2 mounted that far back, much less in the collector, probably get some sketchy readings with it mounted there, especially cruise and light loads can pick up reversion and give lean readings.
Usually mounts about 6" from heads on each pipe, check each cylinder separate.

You are 100% correct on that. My logic was I wanted a balanced reading, not exclusive to one cylinder. At idle I do get really wacky readings, which makes sense. One time I put a rag over the muffler at idle and the meter settled down a lot.

I've ordered a different muffler that actually has some internal baffling to quiet things down for tuning, and to keep me under the CHP's radar. That should prevent a lot of reversion.

about 25 miles, got a weird idle knock. Kinda metallic sounding. Not sure if it's the huge valve lift and oversized valves breaking in or not. Developed over the ride.

Well this sucks:

Wideband NEVER said anything over 14:1, and I've got the timing set really retarded for break in. I know exactly where that happened too. Going about 50 in 4th towards the end of my outing, I slowed down a bit, then rolled on the throttle for a mild acceleration (varying RPM's, you know). As I was accelerating I felt a little dip in power, like when the carb starts getting air but I knew the fuel was good.

F#$K! Hopefully I can just hone that **** out and replace the piston. I'm sure the rear one is similar. That's the front, and the worst of it is on the rear side of the piston. Last time this happened to me it was the front of the piston.

Jump those jets up for the next one, running at 260 cranking 12.8 afr may be your safe place for a break in. My big engine never goes above 13.2 anytime and falls to 12.8 wot because sometimes normal just isn't for all engines.
