Dropped all three fluids, installed a used JW Speaker led headlight, custom dynamics led sigs and a Kury led tail. Bike already had a run/turn/brake adapter that also appears to equalize the leds. I get to return the $80 custom dynamics module I bought in anticipation. Nice. Didnt like the Schwinn handlebar, so I picked up a 6.5 riser and a drag style bar. I figured that was all the rise I could squeeze out of the stock brake and throttle, but I was wrong, theres easily enough for me to go to 8, which is all id want anyway. So Ill think about that. Put gooden tight bushings in at the same time. Tossed these silly mirrors and put some standard HD chrome ones I had from a previous take-off. Put a new K&N air filter in for now, and thats about it.
Shes getting Racetech springs and cartridge emulators on Tuesday, along with a set of Night Dragons. A part for a set of Ohlins for the rear should be arriving today so the shocks will probably go on tomorrow while Mother Nature pisses on me all day.
Oh man, experiencing the legendary FXR handling for the first time. I didn’t know what to expect, especially since my Low Rider S handed so well, but wow, even better.
When I got it, the tires were so bad (old, rot) I was afraid to past 30mph. Suspension was lowered wth some really old progressives on the rear and lowered springs in the fork. Really bad as well.
Put on new Pirelli Night Dragons (repacked the bearings too) 13” Ohlins S36E’s, Racetech springs (both rated for my substantial weight), cartridge emulators and a SuperBrace fork brace. Also had a Wilwood 4 piston caliper put on at the same time.
Only rode home from the shop yesterday since my girl and I have a recurring date with Friday late lunch/early happy hour, but man oh man, that was a stunning improvement. I still was taking it easy for the first 100 miles on the tires and new brake, but it was great. Dive, gone. Smooth yet tight ride. Bike almost took the turns by itself. Complete stability. I was really unsure if the 39mm fork was going to feel as good as it does - in fact I was expecting to maybe have to find a 49mm set of take offs, but at this point, don’t think it’ll need it.
Put my Custom Dynamics rear turns in, and a S&S stealth AC (vented to the atmosphere) to replace the old SE unit on it originally. Now that I’m almost full LEDs, I still want to figure out if I can change the idiot lights on the top clamp with LED’s as well if possible. Anyone done that? The pee-wee incandescent bulbs aren’t very bright.
Next week I’m going to put in a SE-3 cam, Feuling lifters and S&S Breather gear.
Will probably get a Dynatek 2000 ignition, but leave I dual fire for simplicity.
Then hopefully I’ll be done for a while lol (sure.....)
Have to address the front brake still though. Seems like the improvement going with the Wilwood caliper should have been better. I’ll wait a bit to see if it improves when the pads bed. But there is an issue with the brake light, if you giggle the lever the light flickers. I thought it was the switch, but it also seems the lever isn’t fully returned when released. Only a few mm’s it seems, but I’m wondering if the MC may need a rebuild or is it’s just the switch. I’ll investigate.
