Default 1998 Dyna Wide Glide rear tire

I have a 1998 Dyna Wide Glide FXDWG, that I bought brand new.

Is it me (no jokes) but the rear tire is not centered.
The last 2 tires I have bought rub the side of the inner fender wall. (it barely rubs, but on a big bump it will lightly score the side wall, hard to notice though)

I have taken the wheel off, check wheel spacers, taken the bike to a Harley mechanic and they have all said that the spacers and everything is correct.

I have been told next time to go one size smaller.

Has anyone else had this issue on their Dyna Wide Glide?

YES, I am using the stock tire size that the bike came with (I do not recall this happening the first few tires) there is over 70,000 miles on the bike..

Any help or thoughts appreciated..

Bob

I also bought my 1998 WideGlide new and i don’t have that problem. What’s your suspension? I had a set of Progressive shocks on mine for a while that was 1/2” shorter I think. Bike has been overloaded a few times and while it may have bottomed out a few times I never noticed any side rubbings. My tire is the stock size but I switched from Dunlop’s to Pirelli tires.

I have the stock suspension on the bike.

Is your rear tire centered under the fender?

Not that suspension should come into play.... I just feel that the rear tire should have more side clearance on the primary side. TONS of room on the brake caliper side.

PS, the belt is lined up great, no rubbing of the belt (meaning the tire is true'd / aligned)

Could it be that the fender is off-center?

I'm not saying that it couldn't be, but don't know how as the fender is held in place by the 2 side braces that the shocks attach to which then attach to the frame.

Do you know a way to test or prove that the fender could be off? Just curious...

I have a 1997 Wide Glide that I custom fit a 150 rear tire. Stock wheel and fender, modified belt and pulley. This tire is significantly wider then your stock 130, it does not rub on the fender, with short Progressive Shocks. Are you sure you are running a 130 and not something larger?

That said, my 150 is like a 1/16" closer to the fender on one side VS the other, but 1/16", nothing you would ever be able to see.

Thank you all who have gave me feedback/input. All replies are great. When I get home tonight I will get a picture, get tire sizes, and post.

It's been this way for a few tires now and something MUST be wrong! (don't tell anyone, but my luck it will be the driver)

Thanks
Bob

Here is what I am talking about.

MT90B16 tire Dunlop American Elite

On a hard bump it will rub the sidewall of the tire (I know, the answer is lose some weight)

Have plenty of room on the brake caliper side

I made sure the tire was centered using the holes in the swing arm to align.

Anyone have any thoughts?
