Default Ignition modules

There are a few ignition module upgrades to choose from.

Daytona Twin Tec model 1005,
S&S HI4N,
Ultima,
Dynatek 2000i
Crane (Although that one is difficult to find here in Sweden).

So for an 80” with Evo 27, K&N filter, Slip-on mufflers, a slight bump in compression and tuned CV carb, what Ignition would You advice?

Dyna, or OE for me...
If OE I have had a Good performance increase by simply utilizing a Module off a Sportster... almost free due to so many folks Upgrading, and you get a Quicker advance curve, and Higher rev limit... all I'm looking for!!!! Note; be sure to get the module compatible with your year model plug!!!

I have used Dyatona Twin Tec products on a couple of my previous bikes and would recommend them. I would give them a call as they can walk you through the setup for your configuration and help you decide if their product meets your needs.

I don't have the breadth of experience to speak with any authority on one vs another, but I did put a Dynatek in my bagger last winter and the bike has never run so well. It's amazing. Couldn't be happier.

I prefer the Dynatek 2000i.
I've installed 3 so far and really like them but then again I've heard good things about the Daytona Twin Tec.
As for the S&S Hi4N I just gave one away and flat refuse to put another one in either of my bikes ever again. JMO

Just put an Ultima in mine, basic stage 2 set up w an Andrews cam. No problems but if you do decide to go w an Ultima don't buy the kit cuz their coils suck. I bought the ignition,a basic J&P single fire coil n a VOES w 6" of vacuum. It runs very nice on curve 1. Quite a bump up from stock.
I personally like the Daytona twin tech if ya wanna pony up.

I had a Screamin Eagle and an EV27, not too bad, and then I went with an 85” piston and cylinder, bigger cam and left the ignition, not too bad till it got cold and it was a pain in the *** to start so I went with the Dynatek2000i, best thing I ever did, and they’re very affordable

Even though the 2ki and Ultima are made by the same people, the standard advance curves (selected by the switches) are very different between the Ultima 53-644 and Dyna 2ki. The Ultima is fully advanced at a much lower RPM whereas the Dyna 2ki stretches the maximum advance to a much higher RPM when in full throttle. With an optional cable and (free) software, you can make either unit do whatever you want.

So, with a mild tuned motor I would be better off with the 2ki ?
I guess it will come down to price then.
2ki or DTT and 2ki seams to be had for a lower price.
Probably go for the Single Fire option.

Thanks all for sharing your thoughts and knowledge.

Most any of them will do single fire but there's little, if any advantage to that. They will work fine with a stock coil or aftermarket dual-fire coil. The Ultima is less money out of the box than the D2ki but if you ever need to tune down the max advance curves you'd need the programming cable. That makes the cost nearly identical. Even with near stock engines, it depends on the fuel available whether you can run the more aggressive curves of the Ultima unit. (Those are the only ones I have experience with).
When they were designing these units, the engineers ran them in an oven @ 400F for 1000 hours to ensure longevity. Failure is practically unheard of with them (2ki, 53-644)

And good advice to NOT buy the Ultima kit with coil. They may be better now but I've seen several go bad early on and heard of many more.
