In order to upgrade to the modern starter configuration (`89 and later) you may also need to re work the transmission case at the starter mount ear.

Your 87 starter should be the same as my 86. I have an All ***** on mine. Works great.

They do have the starter itself as a lone unit, which would have the solenoid mounted in a different location. But I did notice I have the wrong numbers in my head. I had 1.4 kw for stock, so I was trying to update to over 2 kw. But that should work just fine.

So if I decide to update the trans to a splined shaft instead of a tapered shaft that would be the time to do it. Wishful numbers for the bike are going to be 90s, so it will be interesting to see if the tapered shaft handles that.

Default Long time gone

Well its been a long time since I have posted here or even worked on the build. But hey that's life, had another kid and bought the house we were living in. Before you know it time flys by. But I did get my heads and cylinders back, s&s adjustable push rods, 11:1 comp pistons, woods w6 cam. Hopefully I'll get some time be able to start back up on it again.
