So bike has been sitting for 6 months because I was away,in the meantime while I was away I bought part number 25298-98 black wrinlkle finish NOS nose cone to replace my chrome one,i took it apart BUT got sent the wrong gasket, got the early style up to 92 gasket so I cut that middle piece off and installed the new nose cone, starter the bike up everything is running fine BUT now when bike warms up its tapping, as if there is no oil going upstairs, took rocker covers off and I don't see anything, idk what has caused this my bike has 15,000 miles idk what it may be?? any suggestions appreciated.
Have you narrowed down to where the tapping noise is coming from? Front or rear head, intake or exhaust, etc? Anything you didn't tighten up when you took your exhaust off. Unless you are sure it's valvetrain noise, then I would look for the simple solutions first.
Sitting for 6 months sounds like a lazy lifter than needs some time.

ROCKOUT rocker shaft inserts... make the tapping STOP! From the guy that FOUND and CURED the problem NO ONE ELSE COULD, thank you for your support! Ordering & info http://www.rockout.bizOn ebay! ...CLICK HERE Also on amazon.com...
Take a long screwdriver, put the handle to your ear and the tip to the motor. Feel around until you can pinpoint the location of the noise. Like a stethoscope but free, good luck.

If you received a 92 and earlier Gasket I'm curious if they also sent you a 92 down cam cover. I believe the oil ports in the 2 covers are a little different, however the way the oiling system is set up you should get oil to the top end first and once that pressure is satisfied the check valve allows oil to the pinion shaft bushing and connecting Rod bearings. I don't think the gasket is going to allow less oil throughout the system because even though it has the extra oil port hole next to where the breather setup is, the cam cover should still prevent any oil loss providing it's for the proper year, 93 up. Also I was always told that whenever replacing the cam cover you need to disassemble the case to check that the bore for the pinion shaft properly lines up with the cases (checking line bore). Also As far as I know whenever a new cover or cam bushing is replaced you need to rheem the cam bushing for the proper clearance for the cam.
At this point I would still get the proper gasket and reinstall the original cam cover (get it powder coated if you want) and see if your noise goes away.. As it is t's a crap shoot cause I can't see all the parts.. But I think it would be wise to return to original.
