hey guys , i just bought a 98 wide glide . one of the 95th Anniversary ones . its kind of beat up , but seems to run good . has a gas leak at the petcock.. when i got home i noticed the drive belt seemed a bit thin . it measures 1 1/8 inch . the book says it should be 1 1/2 . is his some thing i should be worried about ?

. If the book says 1 1/2", then it needs a 1 1/2"....unless the pulley was downsized for some reason.

Congrats. I'm partial to '98s myself. Deal with the gas leak before you do anything else, including starting.

Sounds like somebody might have went to a wider rear tire, to a 150 possibly.. The 1 1/8" belt was used on the 2000 up bikes.. It allows more room for a wider tire. As for strength? As said yes, no problems.... I got 115 lbs of torque going to my 1 1/8" belt.. I also wouldn't be surprised if somebody went to a 70 tooth on that rear pulley...
