I've fallen in love with my 3D printer. Those things are seriously cool. One of those "you'll never know how useful it is until you've got one" kind of things.

Is your outer primary going to clear this?
They have to be some kind of alien technology... I'm scared to even think about it
Clearing the primary was one of my concerns as well as why it hangs out over the edge like that. But again, I'm not a Softail expert. I think I'd run it dry with the cover off for a minute before buttoning it up...
Thanks for not turning me into the photo police 0maha

Heh.
At first glance, it seemed like that tensioner was standing proud from the inner primary. On second thought, how can it be? Unless Hess shimmed it out at the inner primary, it has to be sitting exactly where it's supposed to sit.
You can see on my bike I have a pretty large spacer washer under the shaft extension
for starters I would like to say you guys are great thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge.
I have a 2000 FLHT standard everything I'm saying is the same at least looks to be the same as my compensator pre 2006. I am currently in the same situation putting a new clutch in I went ahead and checked I have no spacers between the stator Bell and the stator. Nor between compensator and Bell. I'm not calling these right as my experience level is nowhere near most of you guys. My question is can I purchase washers from Fastenal and use as long as my clearances check out when I'm finished
I would suggest just buying the right parts. You can get a set of them, which is what I did, and mix and match until the distances are correct. I got the set from Dennis Kirk. The link is on page one of this thread.
I've been inside 3 fasten-nuthing stores and not one had even the simplest thing I needed, figure they must be a front for a money laundering operation or something... and I see you have an unauthorized transmission main shaft, plus a 35901-85 (not -85A) that is incorrect for the cover. Don't feel bad, HD, James and everyone else F'd up on the those particular gasket numbers/pattern many years ago and never straightened it out. With that said....
You look to have the correct outer spacer in the photo. The inner is a 29961-85 and still available from dealers as well as aftermarket sources. The correct outer is a 29960-85 and discontinued from MoCo, though a dealer might have one and easy to find aftermarket. Once upon a time you could buy shims for the shaft extension, but I've not seen those in a long time, haven't looked for them and don't remember the part number.
