But Id probably do the same as you if the belt has no cracks or noticeable wear

The '90 main shaft is an oddball. Longer, as is the push rod for clutch, spline for clutch hub and fits '90 back main gear inner bearings. Yes, the inner bearings and main shaft changed in '91. I'd heard mention of changing the other gear, but that was advice on hearsay, my bad.

Who am I to dispute Andrews, but for the sake of conversation and knowledge, the main drive gear number Dan and I gave you was correct. If you look at any other '90 BT on DK, 35029-85A works, just saying

I changed my belt at 69k. It had a few small chunks out of several teeth due to what looked like tar/gravel stuck in the rear pulley. Was like that since I bought it with 12k. Otherwise it was good. My current belt has over 80k and changed both pulleys last year. Inspected it closely, no damage so I didn't think twice about leaving it on there.

I`m on the second belt on my `89 Softail.

The original belt lasted 115,000 miles.

That is NOT the correct part number. The transmission in question is a 1990 model year.
See post # 44.

Well, that was quick. The main gear showed up already.

If there was any doubt about getting away with keeping the old one, that doubt went away when I saw those beautiful, brand new splines on this Andrews.

That's what's weird about this. I avoid Amazon like the plague. Bought it off of Dennis Kirk. Their website is plastered with "THE WORLD IS ALL FUBAR BECAUSE OF COVID, SO GOOD LUCK GETTING ANY OF THIS STUFF" warnings. Figured I'd be lucky to have it by the end of the month. Instead, BAM! Here it is!

I have always had good luck with them. Hell, I asked a question about a brand of tires once, and the person who I was on the phone with said "just a minute"...she ran out to the warehouse and physically checked the tire. I thought I was just being put on hold so she could ask somebody else.

Always get fast shipping from them. And Andrews is top notch also. Good quality. YD
