Greetings from New Zealand.
My 1995 FXD came with forwards fitted which were promptly taken off & replaced with mids. as the last good owner had left the inner gear lever in place.
I aquired highway peg mounts to bring it back to stock and all is well.
My question is this : inner primaries for this year/model are not thick on the ground. If I can avoid it Id rather not drill the inner hole for the gear lever on a FXDWG etc.
Apart from metal fatigue, throwing a chain....what is the main causes of these breaking?
Next: should the worst happen, where would you go to buy one, bear in mind where I live.....these bikes are scarce down here and most years I am one of the only Evo riders I meet on the road _yeah, that sounds wierd!)
Best wishes to you all.
60681-94a is the mid control inner primary and should be stock on your bike.
However, it is the outer primary that got beefed up in strength right around your year.
Look at your outer primary (need to remove to check), if it had lots of ribs or webbing cast in to the inside of the outer cover, then you have the strong one. It ads rigidity and strength to the inner primary when bolted on.
Fair call, it was an early start for a Sunday. I want to know the reasons these things give out and where to go buy one as Im not finding any for sale. Cheers

Hi YD. Mine has a lot of the reinforcing you speak of, very noticable when I took it off.

I would have zero hesitation with making the shifter shaft hole, in a primary without... it is well marked on all that I have seen..
