For 80ci (1340cc) EVOs, Harley Parts catalogs show a different oil filter for 98 and back
(#HD 63796-77a) than shown for 99 EVO 1340s like in my 99 FLSTF (HD 63798-99a). The filter for the 99 is not listed as a replacement for the 98 and back filter.. Looks like a dealer sold me the 98 and back filter and after 5 miles the engine started tapping.. ugg. All the oil threads I've read about EVO make no mention of the 99 year difference but I'm going to swap to the catalog # for the 99 and hope no more tapping or related damage.
The filter shouldn't make any difference. Any tapping is more likely from a low viscosity synthetic oil than the filter. The filter is in the return line anyway, not the feed line to the motor. Dump that synthetic stuff and go back to plane old dino-grade oil, 20W50.
The filter is the same as a Toyota 1986 RN Pickup.
HD 63796-77A is the correct OEM part for a chrome filter.
HD 63805-80A is the correct OEM part for a black filter.
HD 63798-99A is an OEM filter for a Twin Cam engine, the factory says it can be used on EVO engines (I have used this filter for several years now on my 1989 Softail).

Wix 51215 or NAPA 1215 will also work.
I use the Wix/NAPA as they definitely do Not have ADBV... Shovels/Evo's don't want an ADBV... anything let out for Bids is Not something I am prone to picking as a best Choice...
If I search the TC filter on H-D web site and part #63798-99A it says the following:
63798-99A Fits '99-later Twin Cam and Evolution models (except '08-later XR models) and can be used as an upgrade for any motorcycle that requires Oil Filter P/N 63796-77A, 63805-80A, 63812-90 or 63813-90 Chrome.
Important to note that this is only valid for 63798-99A

I will try and remove my post if I can so not to upset anyone.
Edit: No can not delete or edit that post now.
Sorry!
Some days it's inevitable...
Since you guys have all the P/Ns at your finger tips, is one of those the long chrome version for an early Dyna? Don't mean to hijack or upset anyone.
