Made a new race installer also.. Bearing fit was a little loose, only about 3/4 though interference so I used Loctite 620. I wanted to remove the outer bearing spacer to clean things and apply a little of the 620 to it so it won't turn if the bearings do.. I use the slightest bit on the races then left the case in the press overnight with 1 ton pressure on the race.. The hydraulics did leak down to 1/2 ton overnight..
Oh no I got the seal in backwards.. Actually I didn't... No gaskets pistons above cylinders by 0.030.. 0.045 head gasket and 0.020 base gets me close to 0.030 when they compress..
The best squish I ever had was .027" but that was on my SBC.. I try to achieve. 030" on the Evo's..
Just a note: you can get a specified MLS head gasket or even a base gasket thickness from Cometic..
That was kind of my trick. Id always shoot for about 50, thou using 26 compressed gasket in a shovel. Then I would use bass gaskets at different thicknesses to get it down to 40 /42.
More work.. Cam chest.. Assembled oil pump.. Checked cam timing. I had actually screwed up the cam advance when I swapped out the 631 for the 640. I wanted it advanced 3 degrees but advanced it 5.. At the time I didn't recheck.. I backed it off and it's now advanced 2.5 degrees. I also made lifter holders..
