rust holes
Would you trust that frame after seeing those rust holes? The rusted-through holes are indicative of the condition of the rest of frame.
Repairing those holes would merely be a cosmetic fix. It would not fix the integrity of the remainder of that frame.

I would toss that frame to the scrap metal dealer and replace it with a sound frame.

There's NOTHING wrong with the frame. In fact that's a common problem with the old frames and easily fixed. 🙄🙄

This is a killer build you have going here! And just to add one more thing to your food for thought list here’s a picture of a 1988. I just got done with for a guy. That’s a seat off of a 2019 mated up to the original square Dash tank.

Thats what I was thinking too, but then again I am learning all of this as I go so I could've easily been wrong. The powder coating guy made it seem like it was a pretty common and easy to fix issue. I pick up the frame and everything tomorrow though, so the repair went smoothly.

Man that looks good. Seat is something I still have to figure out. Seems like it's not a hard task to get a newer model seat and get it mounted. Was going to cross that bridge once I got more of the bike put together. But have been leaning towards a custom saddlemen seat, black leather with red lattice stitching to match the rest of the bike.

What sort of modifications did you have to make to get that mounted?

Got everything back from powder coating and man does it all look great. Can finally start piecing this thing together.

quickly yesterday I repacked the steering bearings, and got the triple tree installed, and then I rebuilt the forks as well. Just need to fill them with oil and screw the top on.

test fit one of the forks into the triple tree just to see the black on black and how it was looking.

06 seat on an 89, the tongue had to be extended for the later seat. I also had to modify the front of the pan a bit.

On the seat, try to make a tab to use '09-'23 seats, then you'll have plenty cheap seat choices, and it's not hard to modify the seat pan if you have to.

My 89 frame rusted like that so I bought a 91 frame from Pinwall cycles and now am in the process of trying to get it titled. I'll bet the rust has penetrated the frame tubes I wouldn't trust it. jmho
