Just make sure they aren't using Harley's Evo lifters. They are a known weak point even in bone-stock engines. I had two fail in 100K miles in a near stock engine that I don't beat on. I know that they have used OEM lifters in some Ultima engines in the not-too-distant past, but in researching it now, I can't find any place where they say what lifters they use in any of their engines. I think it would be worth the expense to replace them with Crane or whatever, even if Ultima won't pay for it.
Well the lifter swap is not going well âŚthey came out OK with a magnet in the crankcase and I thought since they were adjustable pushrods that I could just split themâŚWRONG I have to pull the rocker covers top and bottom and you cant do the back box without pulling the motor âŚman I aint happy since I just put the d_-- thing inâŚ.I would like to just send it back and start over because of couple other minor things I found especially since I have to pull it anywayâŚI wonder what other guys that have had issues in the past have to do their own labor as wellâŚI donât mind as much because I have pretty much wrenched all my life⌠just a big pain and I know what Iam doing with all the toolsâŚthey probably just tell you to send it back and they fix it I am sureâŚanyway I ve got another call into them before I go any furtherâŚagain I bought the 100 because of the compression rating and other things for long-life rather then an extra 20 HPâŚ.I should just bought a 113 and I probably wouldnât have had any issuesâŚanyway good luck on your 127 I am sure it will be fine⌠and MP knowing first hand I almost would have to agree with If I got to keep it I should just drop the exppensive for the better lifters and pushrods
The issue with the VOES. I PMed a fellow whom has been dealing with a 113" on a roadking. He has a lot of experience with these motors. this is what he said :
"I have discussed this with Midwest Motor tech dept and John Sachs of So Fl who does a lot of work for Midwest,
The consensus is never ever ever put a VOES on a Midwest Stroker
It will burn it up with internal heat for major piston and cyl damage.
If it were me I'd take it off ASAP"I have since taken the VOES vacuum line from the carb to the switch and plugged the line today.I do not remember reading anywhere in the owners manual about the use of the VOE. anyway i am assuming we don't need it.
Just spoke with Ultima and they still use stock evo lifters but I did get him then to cut me a deal through jireh on some 7/16 quickchange adjustable pushrods so I do not have to pull the motor ...that works for me ...just cant wait to get on the road again...
Paco, Did you notice a difference in how the motor runs? I will get mine disconnected over the weekend.
JJB1, Good news that you don't have to pull the motor anda good deal on the push rods.
JJB1,
Did you have to cut the oem pushrods out ? If these pushrods quiet the engine , please let me know. I will invest in a set for my bike. Do these engines have roller rockers or are they the stock type that come in OEM engines ? thanks JJB1
Goat,
The only thing i notice since i unplugged the vac line is the idle speed dropped to about 800 rpm. i just adjusted it and kept riding.I did notice that it didn't seem to rip up as quickly, but that might just be in my head....... Newnan, Ga new HD dealership is having a Dyno Shoot out today. I am getting ready to ride the ol'90 over and see how many twinkies kick my a$$.
Paco,
Voes has been disconnectedand It did seem to need a little more on the idle. Can't try it out as we got more snow on Friday. Weather is looking good for next weekend but as usaul it is to early to tell. Mounted my saddlebags and finished up a couple of other things. Bike is ready for the road. How did you make out yestrday at the Dyno shootout?
You are right about the throttle response. the dyno shootout went.....well it went. I was against a 96" softail. have no idea what he had done to his motor. I beat him two out of three times. should have had all three, but reaction time got me on the last run. I was disappointed in the hp on the 1/4 mi runs. i averaged 85 hp on the 3 runs. i was expecting more, not whatultima advertised, but more. don't get me wrong , i still like this motor. I an still going to have it dyno tuned in the next few weeks. It 's just every place wants me to leave it and i want to be there when they do the deal. Anyway, hope you get to ride soon.
