Oh and Paco Ijust pulled the front rocker box and I wasent paying that much attention but I beleieve it had the roller tip on the rocker...I buttened it back up because iam getting the quick change rods
I am glad you brought up the VOES JJB1. Very much appreciated. Let know how that thing sounds when it is done.
89Classic - I have only 800 miles on my 113" and it has been flawless. Tons of power and I broke it in by the book from Ultima. Jireh Cycles has the best price on these motors and is a good place to deal with. Give them a call.
Well i was thinking about getting the Ultima 113 but after reading these postings i'm not sure now.
I check the prices on Ultima's site, what i don't understand is why are all the engines the same price.. Complete 100 CI Engine, Black Finish ... $4,295.00 Complete 113 CI Engine, Black Finish ... $4,295.00 Complete 120 CI Engine, Black Finish ... $4,295.00 Complete 127 CI Engine, Black Finish ... $4,295.00
I've alway thought that if something new comes out that's alittle biger than the last, the price is also alittle biger, that's the American way.. lol
Paco is that the price you payed for your 107 ?
I think i gave less than $3900.00 for the 107 last Oct-Nov from Jireh Cycles delivered.
89 Classic,
Years ago I owned a S&S 113. loved that motor. it began to blow oil out the case breather. At that time S&S had a forum site similar to this one, only for S&S questions.. I asked why many times, talked to many people with the same problem and more. You would not believe the questions and problems that were posted on the site. I wish Ultima would open a tech site for owners to ask questions. I am glad thereare people on the forum that share their experiences and knowledge about these type things that keep the rest of us from learning the hard way. What i am saying , every motor manufacturer has problems, you just don't hear about most of them unless it is brought up on one of these forums and that what these forums are for in my opinion.
You can change out the lifters without pulling off the rocker boxes or cutting the pushrods, it's a bit tricky first you back off the pushrods then pull all the bolts out of the lifter blocks pull them up and the lifters will drop into the cam chest pull them out with a magnet. Drain the gas out of your tank and lay the bike on the left side. You have to push the lifter blocks up on the pushrods and put the lifters in from below I use a heavy grease so the first one stays put while I get the second one in. Make sure you have an alignment tool for the lifter blocks to keep the oil hole lined up, they are cheap only about $10 get 2 of them as they also work great to align the lower rocker boxes. Don't even attempt this method unless you have lots of patientence as it might take you a few trys. I changed out the lifters and pushrods in my 127 this way and even with the Vthunder pushrods I still couldn't get them in normally as the lifter blocks are just too high. Even after changing out the lifters and pushrods it's still noisy I suspect the noise is coming from the back lash on the cam gear as I didn't check it when I had the lifter blocks out. The old lifters had no markings on them at all so it's difficult to know what brand they are, at least now I shouldn't have lifter problems just in case the lifters used in the Ultima motors are an economy type.
Ultima uses stock Harley EVO lifters...I am not sure on the oil hole unles you are talking about the one on the side of lifterand I dont think it matters where that faces I out mine towards the larger opening on the lifter blocks (Crane has theres on the side Evo has parlell with the rocker wheel)... I am concernedabout the height even with my quick change rods but I know that you can get TwinCam quick change that go down to 8.5" verses the 9.5" on evo but have the same 11.5" height...thats theroute I will go next if the evo style does not work as Iam sitting at 9.4" clearance...I do everything on a full otorcycle lift and is a must in my book for anywork done, I love it and could not do without it period.. They have a great heavy duty one at pep boys for under 3 bills a great investment...thanks Classis Beast for all the input on the lifter swap but surley the Twin cam rods will work they were just $40.00 more then the ones I purchased ill let youall know tonight when I try to put them on...later
well I got to say the quick change rods did the trick they are 7/8 and in some areas I had more then a 1/2" clearance fyi the part number is 91-752 form jireh the retail isaround 80 smacks...the biggest diff was the noise there is absoultly no noise now...I had the one clapping lifter and the other 3 noisy ones but now it sounds like a twin cam on top I can barley hear it even after it is warmed up...HUGE diff from previous sound and not because of the one failed plunger on the one lifter...again major diff in sound...Ishould have looked at the plungers in all lifetrs before I backed out the factory rods from back off memory Iam almostsure they were all way over adjustment and thats prbably what sunk the one plunger...I went <2.5 past lash and thats the sweet spot again valve train sound is totaly gone...not I got 375 miles to go before I reach 500 then its mobil 1 20-50 and openher up a little...have a good day and goat thanks for the e-mail
thanks for the info. i may go ahead and order me a set of those rods to have on hand in the event i have to take the rods out for any reason. i think i asked before and don't mean to be redundant but did they come out without taking the rocker box covers and rockers loose?
Keep us posted on the motor. I hope to find a dyno tuner soon. I would like to get that done before i leave for west virginia in may. Just to make sure the fuel/air is close to right on.
Also, looking at the pics wheredid you come up with the mounts for the front floorboards. I had a guy ask the other day about putting floorboards on his softail custom.?
No you don't have to take the rocker boxes or anything off just the chromepushrod covers and they area bear to put back on...the new pushrods just go right in with plenty of roomto spare...I looked forever for thoseantivibration floor boards and the only place I found them was J$P so I had to pay the j$P $$$...and yes you are right on with the tune...after tuning it myself my primary jet is too big for that engine ill probably swap itwith the next size down that I have ...other then that Its ready to go...i will stay posted on here all the time though...
