i dont think they were really pushing the race brace on the softails, it was mainly the dressers because the motor and transmission tied together, were a softtail motor is bolted to the frame down tube in the back and the trans is bolted to the frame behind the down tube. anyway, got her back together without the brace and with a new Ultima 1.4 starter.
the brace sounded good at first, but if no one has had any problems busting inner primaries then i am not going back without it. it is aggrevating. i had to space out, build a spacer for the clutch pull cover just to get the clutch cable to fit . cant get to anything close to the oil pump. I am going to run without it. if i bust the primary, then it will just get popped. mia, u have put 120's on without a brace right ? as i understand u havent had any problems. the only time i really hammer her is when the boys with the 110 -113" screaming eagles want a little of my Ultima 107 ". they got to catch her first !
later ...........
Yep, we don't use them on the Evo's. You might have needed them on the bigger Shovels as we cracked a few inner primaries until we found the cure for that. One of the problems you have putting them on an aftermarket case is in most cases the case is wider, so the rear of the brace is away from the tranny. This means that you have to put spacers and longer bolts to hold it. Now you have the brace away from the tranny and it has more of a chance to move. Just my two cents worth.
Carlini makes a brace designed for the wider (s&S style engine) so you wouldn't need to have spacers with it. I would guess with a right side drive there would be a problem but when you have the primary and final drive on the same side it shouldn't be as much of an issue

That's interesting, I'll go take a look. Carlini made the SE race braces.
But still don't have many miles on the bike. Had to have tons of work done to the clucth to get it going and now I have what appears to be vapor lock, although, I don't know how that can be. When riding down the interstate, it starts backfiring and dies, unless I down shift it and help the RPM's up. I had to pull over several times and milk it home. Anything? Electric is at 14.

If you have one, check your VOES tube for cracks or possibly even come off.
I had a similar problem with my Ultima after I pressure washed it, no problem starting it up after but then about 10 - 15 minutes later it would just die and wouldn't start, if I waited about 1/2 an hour it would fire right back up and I wouldn't have any more problems until I pressure washed it again. If I used a hose and bucket, no problems. I changed the ignition out to the Ultima programmable and no more issues after that.
I will give the gas cap a try. The bike has not been around any water in some time. I appreciate all your help and I will give it a ride this afternoon. Frustrated as I just had to shell out 1k getting crap in the clutch are fixed up. Wasn't doing this before I took it in, but I don't want to blame them. They in fact fixed lots of other stuff. I don't think I have any VOES hooked up. I will check it out. Thanks for all the replies and I will report back. Ride safe!
Used to run an MC power arc. great ignition, but the circuit board would randomly fail. had to let it set for a couple of hours (to cool down I later learned) and it would start right up. Sometimes it would run for weeks without an issue and sometimes it would die 5 minutes later.
Replaced it with a Crane HI4 and never had another problem.
FWIW, aside from the problems, I liked the MC better.
