Just a note you guys, I checked my VOES for it's setting, it was marked a 5hg and it switched at 3 1/2" water, for the 107 I'm putting it way up at 7.5hg, that should be pretty safe

Pull the VOES.&nbsp\\;No need on a big motor. My motor ran better without it.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\;\\\\\\\\\\\\\\; Now we have crappy gas and need to ad to that to stop the pinging.

To all...
&nbsp\\;
Got&nbsp\\;my baby back. 1990 FLHT w/Ultima 96 in motor.
&nbsp\\;
New rings, lifters,&nbsp\\;cam..Comp 5005. New S%S high Perf heads with the lil do dads in the ports to make them flow better.
&nbsp\\;
One of the things that I had trouble with for the last two or three years has been detonation..spark knock...had pinging &nbsp\\;high rpm..loaded, two up, had several people check timing all to say it's ok, but never was.
&nbsp\\;
I now have a voes, which I didn't have before...runs like a champ,&nbsp\\;NO noise&nbsp\\;(pinging), but trying to keep it under 3500 rpm for a lil while to brake in.
&nbsp\\;
If I ever figure out how to post a pick of my scooter I will, I hope??
&nbsp\\;
Tom

Hi Paco,
How goes your summer? Bike running good?
&nbsp\\;
Hi Tom,&nbsp\\;
Glad to hear that bike is running good.&nbsp\\;Great news. I had pinging with good gas and the voes.&nbsp\\;Took the voes out and all pinging went away. Now we have junk gas and it is pinging. Riding 2up and high rpm load. I am going to go to a gas additive and try that. To post the picture of your scoot, here is the code: and that will post it.&nbsp\\; Shoot me a pm and I will help you out.

I know this is a somewhat lame question, but what kind of mileage do your Ultima engines get on the highway. I like to tour and am putting in a 6 speed. The Mrs has given her okay to do the engine since the bike's down anyway.

My intent was to stroke the current engine but swapping out with an Ultima seems easy and pretty close in cost assuming I can e-bay my current engine.

The power sounds great, but I'd like to get 35+ MPG.

Anyone out there ever check mileage?

Thanks,

Deet

- hi fellas.

- am enjoying my stock 80" EVO in my
Heri.Softail.Classic

- would like to ask (any maybe start another thread later)
you fellows with your hopped-up motors about a couple of
things :-

(a) the performance difference between your 1XX inchers
(and above) motors , compared to stock ? Is it like night
and day ? Passing cars - fast / very fast ?

(b) should I go all-the-way , or just go a bit bigger ? Am
asking this cause am considering the S&amp\\;S Super
Sidewinder Plus (124" ) motor.

(c) any views about that particular engine and S&amp\\;S in
general ? Am very impressed that they bench-test their
engines before shipping them out.

(d) is installing a "drop-in" engine , diy , difficult ? I do all
my own maintenance work and usually suffer more from
a lack of imperial tools rather than lack of knowledge.

cheers and thanks in advance!

Fergy\\\\\\; the stock and aftermarket VOES is set at too low of a vacume setting for big inch motors. They have the swept volume to produce a great amout of vacuum, hence the higher setting on mine. I had one on my 71 superglide and liked the fact I had two seperate curves which were triggered by the intake vacuum (throttle) and was there ONLY when I needed it. Yes you can program in the curves at sertain RPM's but they come in regardless of throttle position. Ultima doesn't recomend it because everyone trys to use off the shelf VOES switches and they don't go through the trouble of re-setting them for higher vacuum settings that big inch motors require. They are all set for 80 inch motors in stock bikes. So I'll benifet with the two separite curves, 9 degrees diffrence retarded at low vacuum, full advance (31 degrees) crusing at high vacuum.

Never downshift out of high gear going 70 to pass someone, just power-on and drive around them. Ya, night and day!

Your call, Ultimas are half the money and good motors. On my Pan i was going to use S&amp\\;S pistons, they wanted $260, Pretty proud aren't they? Comon, I can by a set of eight for a small block chevy for that! Too pricey for me, they guys at Jireh Cycle gave me whatever I asked and even if it was out of warranty they cut the already cheap prices down a little bit, heck they just sent me a newer better ignition because the one I had was recalled.

Ultima will too, costed me $50 bucks more. I could of had a 120 for a few hundred bucks more I'm glad I got the 107, torque is what I was after for a dresser.

&nbsp\\;
Nah you can do it easy, my Pan was more intricate to detail, this thing is just like putting together a large puzzle. In this regard My pan was more difficult.

i couln't agree more with what Phantomy said. i too thought about the 120" but the 107" is a great motor for my needs.&nbsp\\; installing in my 90 ultra was a pretty straight forward job.&nbsp\\; i just followed the instructions in my service manual.
&nbsp\\;
hey Goat,&nbsp\\; all is well with the engine.&nbsp\\; have ridened it everyday since mid-april.&nbsp\\; planning to go to lil sturgis at the end of the month. it seems to get faster as the time goes on. i guess it is getting broken in.&nbsp\\; haven't checked the mileage lately.&nbsp\\; surprised i haven't gotten a speeding ticket coming home.&nbsp\\; i have had no pinging, except in 6 gear at about 70 with a throttle roll going up hill.
