It would be great if there was a Wiki, something like Wikipedia, and you all could add your knowledge and experiences to make an on line manual with everything one needs to know about installing an Ultima Motor in and older bike. I think Midwest should sponsor one, it would be great for business and help a lot of people that are considering the upgrade.
pajoe; I'm a Panhead nut, it won't fit in an older bike, Evos are too tall, S&S made a special motor with a generator case and a evo top end and valvetrain for that but they don't make the motor any more. They still make all the parts for it. the most you can do for any old pan frame is put a shovel in it. If you wanted to try the old part number for that motor is S&S #31-9292 (1948-1964) & #31-9293 (1965-1969). Just so you know, they don't make these engines any more and they don't list them anywhere.
Goat, JJB1 and anyone else with an Ultima performance motor,
I am having a slight problem.....................was wondering if any of you are having the same problem. it may just be conducive to the larger displacement motors, i don't know. the problem i am having is I can't keep a tire on thebike.I need a tire now, which will be the third since installing the motor. any one haveing the same problem ora comment or a solution to this problem.
Paco and JJB1,
I have had the same problem but only 1 tire for me. I have thought of 2 things that could possibly fix the issue.
1. Pull the plug wire on the rear cylinder.
2. Go and see my Dr. and have a cast put on my right wrist.
65 degrees and climbing here in Maine and I am going to tear it up. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
How much mileage do you have on those Ultima engines? stock Evo is know as a realiable engine but I wonder how many miles you can expect from aftermarket engine?
i had about 85,000 miles on my 1990 - 80" evo, still holding on to it to build a bobber of some sort. the 107 "Ultima has about 6500 miles so far. I have had no issues so far. i expect over 100,000 or more. that may be unrealistic, but hey i have a lot of unrealistic expectations.
Well Guys.......
My 96 inch Ultima has bit the dust. This would have been the third season, cam and lifters are gone, only 105 compression frt and rear.
Developed a whine last fall \\;that would come and go with RPMs. Local harley shop said it wasn't anything to worry about. So I didn't do anything about it all winter, this past month I took it to a guy who really knows his s....! He wasn't real conserned but said he would take the cam cover off and check it out. and thats what he found. \\;Going to see him tomorrow night to see what else is bad. makes me wish I would have done the Harley exchange and stayed with an 80 inch motor.
NO MORE ULTIMA MOTORS IN MY FUTURE!!!! Ya get what ya pay for!!!!
td,
