Yes, i finished almost. took her out for her maiden run Sunday. Trashed the oil pump. one of the gears locked up in the pump and broke the pump shaft. been on the phone with Jerih today. I don't think it was the motors fault. looked like metal in the pump from the oil tank. I thought i cleaned it thoughly but ?? any way i loaded the pics on photobucket...
My bike was primed today and went to fire it up. Turned over about 3 times before the battery was dead from priming it. It fired up for a couple of strokes before killing. It is on the charger and hope to have it running soon...
Bike fired right up this morning. Eng light is on, but I assume that is from the missing ECM components. The one thing is that the oil temp guage never went up so I need to make sure that the oil is going through the cooler. That is the next step. Sounds great though. Oil pressure was up at 30 while it was running.
Need some help guys. The bike fires up right away and sounds o.k. I say o.k. b/c I think the lifters are fairly loud. I worry that they are not getting enough oil but I pull off the oil lines and there is oil going through. I have tripple checked the routing and it is all correct. Here is the weird thing. The oil cooler I put on has a built in oil temp guage. It is reading 70 before I start it up, but never climbs. What the heck? The oil pressure reads 30 psi and I know there is oil flowing. Can I have a blockage somewhere possibly? I don't want to take the bike out for a spin b/c I worry that it is not getting oil to the top end and that is the cause for the extra noise. I may be over cautious, not sure, but this one puzzles me. I did prime it per the book and oil did come out the screen. What next? Thanks!
The only way i could confirm oil flow through mine was to take the return line from the oil cooler to the oil tank off. Fire her up an make sure there is oil coming back to the tank. If not start taking the hoses off until you find the blockage. My oil gage registered 45 lbs pressure on my 90 ultra but pressure is relative to the gage. one may read different than the other. It just gives me a reference point to go by. Once it got hot it went to about 30-35 lbs.
Thanks Paco. I did take the return line off and there was oil dribbling out of it. This is while it was not running. I will give it a ride today and watch it carefully. Don't want to burn up the top end before I get any miles on it. I am just going to assume that the top end noise is normal with these engines as I have read that the lifters are noisy.
