Have a listen at a crap video.....
It's 100% the front cylinder. I pulled the rods back out this morning & switched the inlet & exhaust side, just to see but it made no appreciable difference. I've got a top end gasket set ordered.

You don't need to take it all apart. Lay the front rod out and take the plugs out. Lay a rag over the tappet guide but not in the hole. Turn the engine over for 15 seconds. Wait 2 minutes then give it another15 seconds. Maybe one more time. The lifter should have oil laying in the top of it but wait a few more minutes to let out any bubbles. Put it all back together.

Feulings are a sob to bleed out and that's when I started doing that with any new lifter.

Thanks for the tip! I did it & it's pumped up just fine.
I checked the screen, also fine.
Reset the front rods & fired her up. Quiet as a new engine, until the rocker covers get hot, then taptaptaptaptaptap......

HOWEVER......
I slipped, while I was listening to the top end, via a 12" ź drive extension & hit the front exhaust pushrod tube & there was instant silence. Take pressure off the tube, tappity-tap-tap. Push the middle of the tube towards the cylinder: silence. Release pressure & you know the noise.

The sumbitch pushrod is somehow impacting the TOP of the inner pushrod tube.

Now, I have no idea what to do about that at all! Just replace the tube? Rod & tube? Buy a twincam? (I kid! 🤮 )

Try turning the cover. May take both sets of fingers. All else fails, find a 7/8" tapered hand reamer ream the top of tube and file smooth the end so you don't it won't cut the o-ring.

We never had an issue with evo lifter pumping up - but the click 90 percent of the time its the lifter roller

sorry if someone else has said that already but that is usually the cause - i did read you went over the adjustment and as soon as the oil started to warm it came back-

That was my initial thought & I replaced the 25,000 mile lifters with brand new. However the tick persists & is definitely at the top end of the pushrod.
I've got new inner tubes on their way. Better safe than sorry, for $35
