I sure hope you experts can help me with this issue. I have a 90 FLHTC with a newer (10K miles) EVO engine, Mikuni carb and slip ons. The weather has cooled down here but not much as I live in AZ however my cold starting is giving me fits. I follow my usual process by pulling out the enrichner, give it a twist of the throttle and she fires right up. The problem is my idle is way low, it spits back through the carb and dies. This is very frustrating as I never had any issues with the idle or cold starts before. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.
Hey Flash,
On both my mikuni's there is an idle adjustment **** hanging down under the air cleaner. You can go up and down with the idle speed using this ****. It looks like a **** on thr end of a cable on my 2 carbs.
This might help..... http://www.mikuni.com/fs-tuning_guide.html

Ditto for my mikuni on my '86. Have to crank that idle up a little at first and then let it back down when it warms. That's in addition to the enrichener for a couple of minutes.
Is that why mikunis are so expensive - production costs on that do-it-yourself dongle?
Hey Guys, I had been playing with the idle but didn't think it was the long term solution. I will mess with it and check my jets too. This spitting through the carb was driving me crazing riding to work this morning as it continued even after the engine was warmed up. I also found a link to Mikuni with some topics on my issue. Thanks
UPDATE: I adjusted the idle as recommended and guess what... zero spitting back through the carb. It is a slight pain in the butt to adjust the idle at a stoplight but it is worth it. I am going to pickup some carb cleaner to check for intake leaks because I think that is a good thing to do anyway. Thanks to all!
